Last month I was blessed with 12" of rain so I was able to get a cutting of hay. Because the hay was so lush and full of fire ant hills the 488 haybine did not work to good. So I changed out the blades on the shreader r as some call it the Bushhog to uplift blades and cut my hay, worked very good just slower cause only have a 7' shreader was wondering if anyone uses the uplift blades to cut hay what size shreader U use.

The safety police would have a cow if they saw my shredder that is used to cut hay. It is a rhino 5 ft 'hog, but I took a cutting torch and removed most of the left sidewall. That way the hay is scattered instead of being left in a pile. I use this rig in the cooler weather spring and fall because the hay will cure in just a couple of days because it is shredded and tedded in one pass. I do not own a haybine or crimper. In the warmer weather, I use a drum mower and a tedder if needed.

Some models of rotary mowers, (shredder, bush hog), used to be made with a "hay door". You could unbolt one side of the deck to mow hay.

I have used one in a pinch, when I had a few acres that had been grazed in the spring, then grown up again before it could be clipped. The resulting mess was impossible to mow with a haybine. There seemed to be a lot of it wasted, but it sure did dry quickly.
