So I just found out that I will be in SE Houston this coming February with the mornings and afternoons open, so here is the question. What is there to do/see for a guy that is in to old planes, cars and tractors? Will have a rental car, btw. Thanks in Advance!

Isn't the Confederate Air Force still down in Harlingen? And yes, I know they wussed out and changed their name to be politically correct, but I refuse to call them "Commemorative Air Force"

You have to go to Loupe Tortilla's. Best steak fajitas in the world. I don't even like fajitas and I think about them often.

Just came back from a wedding this past weekend in Houston. We went to the Bush Library in College station about 1-1/2 hour away from where we were. It was a lot more interesting than what I thought. I wanted to tour the space center but we were out of time. I don't know where you live and if you are driving or flying but traffic can get a little hectic. Our plane left at noon and we left at 8:15 to take the rent a car back and we had 29 miles to the airport and we got there at 10:20. Two years ago when the gal's sister got married we went to Galveston and toured several places. It was a nice drive.

There was a small place that used to be where the shrimp boats come in that had great shrimp fixed several different ways.Been awhile so it might not be around now.

Gene, To be Politically Correct...The Commemorative Air Force is NOW Headquartered out of Midland, Tx! They left Harlingen, Tx 15 to 20 yrs ago + -!!! They will always be the Confederate Air Force to us who grew up around them, H3LL there are episodes these Guys did that the Statue-of-Limitations hasn't run out Yet!
Like Flying guns for the US FBI/CIA ect, ect, down into South America. One pilot set a B-25, full of Guns, down in South America on a dirt strip, out of fuel in the dead middle of a H3LL of a Fire Fight! He taxied to the far end as fast as he could go and promptly abandoned the plane with the props still a turning.
Uhhhhhhh

<a href="http://www.galveston.com/lonestarflightmuseum/">Lone Star Flight Museum</a> in Galveston.

<a href="http://www.gaidos.com/">Gaido's Seafood Restaurant</a> in Galveston.

Then there is the national seashore at North Padre Island, that is a pretty drive.

The old battleship Texas was in Galveston bay, least when I was there 15 or 20 years ago. Plus a WWII sub.

I live in SE Texas...in La Porte. That time of year...not a lot. Try Galveston...on the Strand. Nice stores there.
If you are near Deer Park...I go to Ken's every morning to eat. I retire Feb 1st....we can spend some time.

Thanks Everyone! I did not know that the "USS Texas" was so close. The tip on the sub has me checking out Seawolf Park. The LoneStar Flight Museum will def be visited. My wife will be attending seminars?? at Johnson, so I have good reason to check that out. Hopefully I have enough to keep me busy! And Bill, I am going to try. Not sure how my mornings are gonna go, but If possible, I'll be there. Thanks again, Aaron
