Hydraulic filter disintegrated

I have a tractor that the hydraulic filter disintegrated on. It looks like a synthetic media, and only about 20% of it is left on the filter. The rest is in the hydraulic system somewhere.

I wanted to pour a few gallons of diesel down through the transmission to see if anything comes out. Bad idea? I don't plan on running it, just straight in and out.

It's an open centre system.

I assume if it was stuck in valves some where, it would have caused a problem already? The loader is a little jumpy at times but never the 3pth or the remotes.
Any ideas as to where the filter media may have gone? I don't think the loader valve has too many small ports and it wouldn't work if it did plug one.
I'm hoping it's in the bottom of the transmission.

First off, what make and model of tractor? Some have transmission, rear end and hydraulic system using the same fluid, some do not. If you have a hydraulic system that is separate from the transmission, it won't matter much what you do regarding the transmisson.

Many also have a suction screen. Maybe post your model and some may know if yours does. If so it will need cleaned.

I would pour some diesel or kerosene to aid in flushing it out. I have done it before.

Here's a picture of the filter. I decided to cut it apart and see what it looked like. Not real happy with it.

Clean the suction strainer if it has one, change the oil and install a new proper filter. Use inexpensive universal oil if not a hydrostat. Run it awhile and repeat with proper oil.

What brand filter?

Kubota filter. That's about all I can do short of splitting the tractor. Pull the pickup if I can, flush it with a gallon of diesel and refill it.

That actually looks like the suction screen not the filter. I am on the parts section trying to see what is going on but that is not the pressure filter. At least that is my first thoughts will get back with an e-mail.

FB The filter the parts book shows is a spin on right below the hydraulic pump. Is that where this filter came from? Sold a lot of 7030s and a few 6030s and something just does not look right about what you have.

This is the spin on filter below the pump. I cut it apart to see what it looked like. This is the only filter in the system.

Well that explains where the filter came from. Really a strange looking filter. Have cut a few open but never anything like that. How long had it been since it was changed?. Those ole 30 series were almost bullet proof. Wish we still had the separate Power steering like it has. Have no idea why the filter failed because it is in the low pressure side so not reason for failure. Think you are thinking right on the next step. Good luck. I don't think you will have any problems.

Looks like somebody left the wrapper on, LOL! I was watching at a
battery and electrical type service place, as a customer's car was
towed in. The dim bulb who had installed the battery had not taken
the shrink wrap plastic off the terminals! Not saying anything
against you, just that stranger things have happened!

This was part of a spin on filter. It's not a replaceable element, I had to cut it apart to get it to look like this. The material you see there is definitely a filter material. It's a plastic material, so I wonder if the oil got to it over time. It was left way too long before being changed, just never got around to it. I have enough stuff that NEEDS to be fixed that some preventive maintenance gets over-looked. On the other tractors,(Allis 185 and 200) I don't need to change the fluid because it has an auto-renew system (read:leaks). Just spin a new filter on and I'm good to go.
