OT Eden Pure

Been getting letters in the mail. Big sale on. Does anybody have one? Are they worth the money and, do they actually save money? Thanks

No, they're not worth it. Can get same heat form a common $20 milkroom heater, they're no more efficient. There's only so many calories per watt hour of electricity. Now if you like expensive, nice looking furniture, have at it.

My understanding is: They save you money IF you use them for ZONE heating. In other words, if you turn the furnace off and sit in front of the heater.

Was given one. On it's second set of Eden Pure only heating bulbs that require a lot of bloodshed to replace in their stamped razor blade housing. A $25 milkhouse heater is just as cheap to run. The ONLY thing I'll give the Edden Pure is this: we have it in our toddlers room and the thing doesn't get hot to the touch where a "conventional" heater does.

There are a lot of heaters like that for a lot less money.

Electric resistance heating is in the 90% range or better, hard to improve on that. Electricity usually cost about 3 times the price of a BTU in fossil fuel. That and when your local electric company bribes your state legislature so they can get re-elected you can bet they'll have no problems in getting rate increases.

Excuse me bribe is such an ugly word I meant to say "makes significant contributions to their re-election campaign"

Is that your final answer?

I have used a cheap little electric heater to save a lot of money on heat for a long time. My wife goes to work, I turn the T'stat down to 62 and turn the electric heater on in my office. I heat just my office instead of the whole first floor. You can accomplish the same thing by having a separate zone for every room.

When it comes to heaters, a watt is a watt is a watt. You will not see any noticeable difference between your high-dollar heater and your cheapie smaller one, at least not enough to pay the difference in price.

100% of the electricity is turned into heat.

Many people calculate the difference between electric and gas/oil but they forget that 5-40% of the energy in the gas or oil goes up the stack unused.

If you have enough dough to pay $200, or more,
for the heat equivilent of a $19.95 Wal-Mart
heater..go ahead and buy one !

Totally agree,100% of the electricity is turned into heat.

Not only does a % of heat go up the stack, a % is lost in trunk lines. Electricity is needed to power blower fan, oil furnace has a gun motor, some have ignition tranformer on all the time.
