Post Office slowdown?

They were saying a while back that postal service would be slowing down. That first class mail would slow to two day delivery instead of one day. Has anybody else noticed that it must be happening?

I took some cattle on Tuesday last week, checks from there always came on Thursday,it was Friday before it got here. This week I sold some on Monday, thought the check would be here today. Nope.

Been that way here in eastern SD for a few months now. Used to send/receive mail locally over night, now it's 3-4 days.

We have to face reality. Its a government controlled agency that is in bankruptsy condition; but the Feds just fight about what to do with it. Federal Gov needs to do 1 of 2 things. Let them slash, & burn expenses, or outlaw online bill pay which would dramatically increase mail delivery once again. I still pay every bill by mail, & some people think I am crazy.

I have a Farm Magazine that is supposed to come on Wednesday. In recent months it has shown up on Thursday about 1/2 the time, & 1 day I think it was Friday! In a nutshell I would bet they have cut down on staffing, & now they have external_link's UN - Affordable Health Care Act to deal with!!!

Old, I mailed you a timer Monday morning. How slow is the post office in your hollar? Do they still use horses in MO?
George

I still mail my bills in too.

Biggest reason is I need to juggle who gets paid when because I can never keep a surplus in my checking. Savings ? what's that ?

Wife and I make more then every before ( not alot though )and we are poorer then ever !!!
Thanks BIG government !!!!! I'm part of the ever growing working poor class.

I pay all my bills by mail too. I suspect some of the capitalists would like to see the post office fail so that UPS & Federal Express can take over the mail delivery.

They told me there overnight shipping takes up to two days,so I went to fedex.

First class mail delivery has typically been three days in my area for...ever.

They had to, they were not allowed to be faster than govt web sites.........

My mail just came at the office, I looked at 2 letters from across my small town- both were mailed Nov. 4, are stamped "Tacoma Nov. 5, and I got them today, the 6th.

Once upon a time, everything was sorted locally, and a letter to someone in the same town mailed in the morning would be in the recipients PO box by afternoon. Then they went to central sorting in Olympia (30 miles away), then moved it to Tacoma (60 miles). So 2 days now, minimum. Reason? Same reason combines and tractors keep getting bigger- going to higher capacity, more sophisticated machines so they can handle a bigger area of mail. Can't blame 'em for trying to get more efficient, because their hemorrhaging money, but the slower it gets, the more alternatives people will try, and the less volume they will have. Kind of a vicious circle.

We are 35 miles from the main sorting center in West Des Moines. routinely takes 7+ days to get a first class letter from there to the box.

If you were to send me a letter, it would go to Lansing before it
came here, but that's been that way as long as I can remember.
Possible the sales barn just isn't sending them out as quick?

The one this week isn't coming from the same place. That's what I can't figure,if the truck is picking stuff up and taking it to Lansing, and it goes out like it always did, where is it laying for the extra day?

The post office has not failed..It has been forced to fail. Having to fund 70 years worth of pensions in advance is what is bankrupting them. A union money grab that is probably ending up in nnalert election funds. Throw in a few too many upper management types who constantly justify their own existence for good measure, and there goes the business.

Well here in central NY where I live, I had to request all my venders/ utility providers, that I deal with to send all my statements/ bills via fax, or e-mail.
had to request this 5 years ago. Our mail was not being delivered to us, and is still not. We have gone to the regional Postal facility and complained several times, however all they say is that in our case the mail delivery is contracted out, and they can't be held liable for a private contractor if we don't get our mail. WTF is that???? BS. There are 2 mailboxes on our mail route with the same mailbox #, however the dumb twit that delivers our mail can't read past my box #112 to read the road name of others on different roads with the same# We have mistakenly opened the other 112's mail and resealed it, and put it back in our mail box, to "send" and took a marker and inked message on envelope stating sent to wrong address; and got a notice from USPS that what we did was illeagle. Amasingly all the junk mail arives every day.
Needless to say their service sucks.

Some of the largest expenses of the USPS are payments to UPS and Fed Ex for air transportation and parcel sorting. UPS and Fed Ex stop at our post office daily to drop off packages to be delivered by rural mail carriers. They are much more partners than competitors. Closing regional USPS sorting centers has affected the timeliness of mail delivery, particularly in the Midwest. Talk to your local carrier or postmaster to see how your particular community is affected. A newspaper delivered on time is far more valuable than one delivered two days late. Your local postal employees are probably as frustrated as you are.

Just another government piggy bank to raid and never replace the money.

But the communists can cheer for the new healthcare scheme.

If only we could have the government involve in EVERY aspect of our lives we would all be so happy!

I don't care one day, two days, 5 days what ever. Anything important to me comes by e-mail or direct deposit. They can do away with Saturday delivery as far as I care.

I haven't noticed any slow down. I have received several ebay purchases in the last few weeks super fast. I purchased a diesel injector pump on ebay Saturday evening and it was in the mail box today.

I have noticed that no matter how much the cost of postage goes up, my bills come sooner and the checks come later. I don't understand?

Nooooooo. Don't say that. My property taxes are due Friday because Monday is some sort of holiday. I just refinanced and the title company, or former title company sent me a check for what was in escrow instead of giving it to the new mortgage company. OK, I desposited the check in the bank where I am, sent a copy of the taxes due from the county treasurer and a check home...by mail yesterday morning...so someone could drive them over to the county treasurer's office by Friday.

Mail slowed down a day or two? Noooooooooo, don't say that. Nooooooooooooooooo.

Thanks, but noooooooooooooooooooo.

Mark

Ohhhhh noooooooooooooooooooo.

They don't pay their bills on time either... I did all the work on the local PO vehicles (LLV's) for over 20 years it was a good kill their were quite a few days I made a very good days work in just a few hours.. I worked for them 365 days a year 24 hours a day if that's what it took to get them back on the road... All went well until about 2006 then they started to get late paying me... They got behind a year and I cut them off then it took me a year to collect on the previous year

The issue was NO ONE gave a damm they always put it off on someone else... They could not be fired,,, I got the new postmaster corner in early 2011 and got paid that day with a stack of postal money orders... When they laid them in my hand I told them to not come back..

Postal workers are the most arrogant S.O.B. I have ever dealt with most all think they are owed something...

Well if interest rates were up around 15% you would have a reason to be piszzed....but since they are around .5% I wouldn't be too upset. If you need the $$$ pronto can't you wait around for the check??

They are consolidating the processing centers so now the mail has to travel large distances to be processed. They have cut clerk positions so far down they don 't have enough of them to handle the mail. Postal management is the biggest joke possible. From the Postmaster General down to the station managers 95% of those people couldn't manage an outhouse on their best day. The Postal Service could do a great job & make money doing it if they could eliminate the 95% mentioned above.

DAMN that external_link! Stiffing you back in 2006!

He'll probably blame THAT on Bush, too...the lousy SOB liar!

Don't know about slowing down, haven't noticed it, but they cut the hours at my small post office. They used to work from about seven to five. They cut the hours to nine to four. I asked the lady one day how people who had to be to work at eight and got off at five, got to the post office. Said she didn't know.

At our local office. It depends on who is at the counter. Some days in out no problem. Other days take a pillow a book.

What I never understood. Nam to Palmer Texas 4 days. Palmer Texas to Mayport Florida 7 days.

Capitalists? What's that make you? A communist? Tell ya what comrade, first off the USPO is a private gov't entity which receives no tax dollars (other than a small subsidy towards retirement, at least as far as I could find). IOW, it funds itself off it's charges- just like any capitalist business. It's also specifically authorized in the Constitution and directed to serve the entire nation. So it funds itself and is Constitutionally authorized. Why would a "capitalist" want it to die? What most people I know want is for it to remain solvent and in service. I can't imagine what capitalism has to do with this discussion. Trolling I suppose?

if it got any slower here it wouldnt move at all mail taking 4 days to go 3 miles isnt unusual

I ordered 2 Jeep parts catalogs, 1 for me, in
Wisconsin, 1 for Nephew in California. I got mine
in 3 days. My nephew, 200 miles away from the
source, in California, got his in 8 days !

They control the Taxes, fuel prices, insurance rates, electric rates and alot of other things that have went up too. Not to mention the HUGE debt. they created and money printing all contributes to inflation.
They can vote theirselves an automatic pay raises. My pay stays the same !

My wife is a (pmr) post master at one of our little town offices. They have cut the office hours back from 6-8 hours to 2 hours. Employees are dropping like flies. I don't see how they expect anyone to drive 30 minutes to work for 2 hours pay. It doesn't make economical sense.

Most of the small town offices in our area are going to be closed within the next 1-2 years and all mail will come from the largest one in the county seat. They are just waiting for all the union post masters to retire so they can close them. They are temporarily replacing them with pmr post masters that only work 2-4 hours per day with no benefits.

Think your mail is slow now, wait a couple of years and see how it is.
