OT--Strange how people react

I spend a lot of time at one of the local diner. It is a very large eating place with many customers.
While there, I do a lot of my computer work with my laptop and I used to have a problem.
There are several different people that would come over to my table and ask if they could join me. Sometimes there would be several gathered all around.
Now ----I enjoy fellowship to a degree, but this was getting out of hand so I asked the question of what work they did or retired from.
When they asked me, I stated that I was an IRS investigator, which is not exactly true.
Come to think about it--don't we all "work" for the IRS?
Now I am all alone, most of the time---LOL!

I work for a major airline. It annoys me greatly to buy something to eat from the food vendors and then have to hunt all over the food court for a place to sit and eat. Many of the tables are occupied by those who have nothing to eat or are finished and just sitting there on their laptop. The food court and diner tables are for those who wish to eat. Go to the library if you want to work on your laptop. You stated that it was a busy place. People are joining you just so they can sit and eat-they don't want to chat they just need the table space that your are hogging with your laptop. Eat and move on. A restaurant table is not your office-Others want to eat....that's what a diner is for. Rant over

WOW---I never thought about that!!!!!!!

(quoted from post at 18:11:45 11/05/13) Depends if the place is busy or if there are empty tables.
Everyone working there knows me by first name and welcomes me. I have never deprived anyone of a place to set. Mostly, I eat breakfast and dinner through the week and not on weekends. I stay about one hour.

When I was working I had a friend who was a preacher stop by about lunch time. After introduction by name, local wicked loudmouth asked him "What in the H--- do you fellows do for a living? Preacher answered, "I sell fire insurance?"

:D

I was eating dinner in a downtown restaurant in Portland, Maine, when the waitress asked if I minded if I shared the booth with another man. Told her that would be fine with me, so she seated him in my booth.

It turned out that he was from New York City, in Portland for telephone training. He said that people in New York City would never let someone share a booth. We talked and I told the waitress to let us know if she needed the booth; that we would leave if she asked.

The dinner crowd thinned out and we sat and talked for almost 4 hours of pleasant conversation.

Was on the road, dressed in suit. Would stop in at
my favorite fast food place in every town to catch a
cup before heading up the road. Drove the workers
crazy cause I'd be making notes, completing orders,
etc. in my notebook and they thought I worked for
their Corporate and were sent to spy on them. Some
of those same kids are still my friends.

I agree with Skybow. I was in a restaurant awhile back and it was really busy. There was at least 15 people waiting for a table and there was a man that had finished eating and he sat there over 30 minutes reading the newspaper.

I agree with Skybow.
On the other hand maybe we could all go to the OP's workplace to eat breakfast.

Something else to consider is when you're tying up a booth or table longer than it takes to finish a meal, is you could be costing the waitress money in lost tips from the customers that would be using that table if you hadn't occupied it so long.
