mf 1105 turbo removal

Recently bought a MF 1105 in great shape for dirt cheap but quite a bit too much H.P. for my needs.Could I simply remove the turbocharger and use it as a normally aspirated engine? Would still be enough horsepower for me and my main goal would be to consume less diesel fuel. Lordy, what a beast!

Removeing the turbo will not save fuel.A turbo only adds more air, thus burning fuel more effiently(and less fuel at that).True, lots of turboed tractors have the fuel 'turned up',removeing it will simply make it run rich. The eaisier the tractor works, the less fuel it will use.Removeing the turbo is not as easy as it sounds. You will have to 'replumb' the intake and exaust systems. If you really need a smaller tractor -like a 1080/1085.But.I always thought a 1105 was naturally aspirated, the 1135 was the turbo model. My advise-Don't.

It"s typically not possible to remove the turbo from an engine and run it normally aspirated. This because they are usually timed differently, have injectors that put out more fuel than a normally aspirated engine, etc, etc. In other words, unless you"ve got a one in a million engine, you won"t be able to just take off the turbo and run it normally aspirated.

You might try turning down the fuel a bit, but taking the turbo off will not help and will probly hurt economy. I too believe the 1105 was originally without the turbo, so the previous owner has probly updated, maybe with a complete engine from an 1135.

Leave the turbo on as it came from the factory that way. The 1100 and 510 combines didn"t have turbo"s but the 1130/1105/1135 and 750"s all had turbo"s. Those engines sip fuel and just make sure the pump and injectors are in good condition. Merle

I use a Massey 1105 on the farm and it has a factory installed turbo. Runs great, lots of power and fuel economy is good. I would not remove the turbo. If you don't want big power sell the tractor and buy a smaller one. You stated that you bought it cheap so you stand to make some money.

No, it's just NCWayne tells it : in fact it probably would hardly pull itself around with no load. I work on trucks and when the boost hose pops the driver stops where he is because the truck won't pull, even empty. Mark

Leave it as is! The 1105 has a "mild" turbo at about 8 psi boost under full load, while 1135 was 12 to 13 psi. 1105 has the very same injection pump as late 1100 did with 7.5 mm plungers, not like the 1135 that had 10 mm. Now if you wanted more power the pump and turbo is what needs changed as the 1105 stock pump setting is about maxed out anyway.

Thanks for the advice. Will leave as is. May trade down to a smaller tractor but not until I,ve really gotten the feel of this tractor and have verified it,s fuel consumption on the round baler next year.
