O/T Woodcock Migrating

We went out this afternoon and flushed nine woodcock in about an hour and a half. Buddy got one. His dog bumped a couple before we got in position and a few flushed wild. This is the most woodcock I have seen here in a long time. Lots of dogwood thickets and aspen saplings. If you like to hunt woodcock, now might be the time to get out.

I used to get a few when I still had a good little Boykin Spaniel. Never did learn how to cook them so they tasted like anything but dirt and worms. I put a couple up brush hogging the other day.

I saved one every season and come spring when they migrated back, I'd roast it over an open fire and renew the bond with the dog, me and the game bird. I love to hunt the "little russet fellers."
