Wheel Horse Trans Axle

I have a Wheel Horse 1054. I think I have sheared a key inside the box. The shaft for the belt pulley is turning like the key is OK.
Will a Commando 800 transaxle work in a 1054. It looks the same in the picture.
Thanks for your Help!

Make sure one of the wheel hubs didn't come loose, slide out, drop the key and slide back on. I've seen that happen twice.

Ken, as you were told check the key's on the axle hubs. Also the trannies themselves are pretty simple to pull apart and work on. The gasket is the biggest problem but you can make a new gasket.

most of that era WH rears will interchange.
check the axle length out the sides of the rear if you want an exact match.
sometimes you need to use your existing shifter .
and for sure check your hubs. I've bought many 'junk' rearends that just had loose hubs.

tip on those hubs and especially early 3 bolt ones.
Long GM 7/16 wheel lugs that drag racers use, thread in
nicely from the back. Then you can use auto lug nuts.
much stronger, and easier to mount big tires and/or dual wheel adapters.

also, don't know if that's what you have now, but if you are buying a rear, it's worth the time to find the dual range one, very handy

I can't remember the model number of my old Wheel Horse. It has the 12 Hp Kohler and dual range transaxle. I've had the key in the input drive pulley shear twice in the 30+ years I've owned it. The pulley spins, but the shaft is not turning. Are you SURE your shaft is turning? I hope that is your problem. Easy fix if it is.
