Do coyotes bark like regular dogs followup.

My SIL called in a panic a short while ago. She said one 'as big as a german sheperd' (that's no exageration, I've seen them) tried to lure one of her dogs into what sounded like the clasic bait and side ambush. The one she saw, about 50 yds from the house, stood its ground when she charged after her dog to bring it back. she was so shook up she went right in and poured herself a stiff drink. She wanted me to camp out at her house and shoot a few if I could. Trouble is, any rifles appropriate for that have been criminalized in CT so I moved them all to my other house in MI. All I have here are shotguns and that is a bit of a far shot. I would like to take out a few and leave them around the perimeter to hopefully get the others to move to another feeding ground.

There is a brand of .22 rim fire rifle bullet called CCI this is quiet .22. Really quiet meaning that it would not be heard by anyone 500 feet away. I shoot this out my back deck with my son.
Shooting a coyote that is dangerous to your SILs dogs might be frowned upon by the authorities, only if they know about it.

Do you think 00 buck would be an effective pattern that far out? What choke? All I have here is cyl.

She is rural enough that the authorities would never find out. Her closest neighbor is, no doubt, some of the cause of the problem. ex-city slickers that thought keeping chickens would be the "in thing". Then they found out that they require maintainence so they let them roam. That turned the area into a coyote fast food joint.

What town does she live in? I have seen some pretty good sized ones up here in NE CT.

Ya got a rifled barrel for that thing?? Hornady SST will do 200 yds with about a 8 inch drop and a good bit more if you are good at dialing in . Dropped a Big doe bout two year back at 276 yds on a dead run with them . But i had the time to lead her and add in some elevation and down she went . They are a nasty round just like ATT they will reach out and touch someone or think as the case maybe .

Just shoot it with birdshot. Even if it doesn't kill, it won't come back around.

Get some 00 buckshot, should be effective out to 100 yds. I carry a 12 gauge on the tractor a lot for skunks and also carry a couple of 00 buck in case I see a coyote.

They make a load for coyotes. A group of guys hunt them in our area every winter with shotguns. It might be called a predator load? I think it's basically hopped up buck shot . They also use a choke that is really tight. The names of this stuff is evading me right now. One guy said an 80yd shot is not out of the question.

I think you may have the solution. I have some particularly nasty Waterfouler Magnums that should reach with a big enough pattern to slow them down a bit. Maybe enough for a few follow ups.

Try the 00 buck in cyl. What have you got to lose.
A couple pellets will change his attitude and at 50 yds will likely send him to the happy hunting ground.

I've shot a lot of big birds, pass shooting, with cyl. barrels.

My duck and goose gun is an old Fox sterlingworth, chopped off to cyl and cyl for steel shot. Lots of camo tape.

Get one of those pump Sheridan air rifles that shoot lead pellets. Ex father in law had one. It would drive tacks at a hundred yards.

File suit against the state they can't take your guns away. A lot of states and cities are trying this but they always lose in court.

they're called CB caps. Shorter than a .22 short but can be deadly if properly aimed.

12 gauge, 3" mag, #2 steel shot. Works great at 30 yards. Had one trying to get in my duck pen.
