how do you replace and or repair the window cables and motors ??looks like the main componets are riveted in ...

they are generally big (1/4 inch) pop rivets. I have just used short 1/4 inch blots to fasten things back together before, a bit more difficult than using the big pop rivets but if you do not have the tool...

Use a large bit and drill the head off the aluminum pop rivet for removal, the little stub left in the center is hard stuff to drill.

I think Harbor Freight has the large pop rivet tools.

The rivet is aluminum but the pin is steel. It is best to knock the pin out with a punch and then drill the rivet out, brace behind the glass. You can use bolts to put it back together. I'd use thread lock on the ones on the glass though. Auto Glass Tech 15+ years Kevin

You do not need to remove the window regulator to replace the motors. Ford conveniently provides dimpled spots on the inner metal of the door for the purpose of motor removal. You need to drill the dimpled spots with a 1/2" drill and remove the bolts that hold the motor through those holes. Installation is reverse of removal.

If the motors runs and the regulator is good you can replace the gear set in the motor. Ford regulators rarely give and trouble but do need to be greased when the motor is replaced...

I had rather have a rebuilt motor over a new aftermarket motor are repair what you have if the motor runs but will not move the window.

If the motor intermittently operates you will need a motor...

usually there is 3 little plastic rollers that get all ground up in the gear drive. They cost about $4 at the parts store. I have done a few of them. You have to drill the rivets like everyone says. Not that bad.

Been awhile but I had an '88 Ford P/U and the power window failed...internal parts stripped...motor ran but window didn't move. Did some work as others stated and got the thing out. Took it apart and some necessary parts inside the gearbox were made of plastic. I Had some wooden dowel rod of the same diameter and cut it to fit. Screwed it back together, reinstalled it and it worked fine.

Tricky as in the window has to come out to get the regulator out.. All the stars in the universe have to line up to get the window in and out... I just did all 4 on a 95 linclon T/C...

You need five 1/4" split rivets and two 3/16 rivets,, all aluminum are you will not get them to pull up... It takes a special long handle tool to pop those 1/4" rivets.....

Jim...you don't replace the cables, 'cause they're not sold separately from the regulators. I worked Ford parts for a long time...I know this to be fact.
