I had an old super 90 Massey a few years back with the perkins motor in it and it was a very dependable tractor. I am looking at a 492 MFWD now. They seem to be very plain tractors compaired to others of the same vintage which is alright with me. I am just wondering if anyone has had any experience with one of these tractors and if there is anything to look for on them. It has around 4,000 hours on it at this point. thanks for any help and info!

if it's a brazil made tractor, don't bother with it. the last ones were junk. they moved production to Europe after that fiasco. I had a 481 that I told the dealer to get off my farm after 250 hours

It is a 2004 and was made in Brazil. What were the issues that you had with your tractor? Did it have 250 hours on it total or did you buy it used and that's how many hours you put on it? I test drove the tractor and it seems to run great and be very solid. Right now they are in the process of putting a new throw out bearing in it. But that seemed to be the only issue I could find. Thanks for your info.

I had a 492 for four years. Your right about being very plain which can be good or bad. Never had much trouble with mine. Traded it off because I wanted to get a loader tractor. Figured it wouldn't be very convenient shifting and also the dry clutch would be bad for a loader tractor.

I bought it new, I think the correct word for the design would be crude. problems were many, including, crooked drive shaft to front axle, faulty seal that spilled hydraulic oil out when you stepped on the brakes, brakes that shuddered and groaned worse than my old 65 massey, when it was cold you turned the steering wheel and nothing happened, turning radius was the longest of any I've owned. more things i'm sure that I've forgotten. massey tried to update and fix the problems with that series and changed it to the 500 series, then just gave up moved production to Europe with an entirely new model.

Wow! Thanks for the info. I was wondering about it just for the fact that it was made in Brazil. I don"t need to buy a bunch of problems! A good MFWD around 30,000 is hard to find! Im going to have to really think this one over. This one does have a loader on it too, but going to use the loader mainly for feeding hay. I have a skid loader that i use for the majority of my other loader work.

I have a '93 Ford 8240 MFWD with cab and new Transmission and hydraulic pump for sale for $18500.

(quoted from post at 05:05:37 10/25/13) Where are you located? How many hours does it have on it?

It has approx. 5400 hours. I am in NH and I can deliver. It needs a new home as I have cut way back on my hay ground.
