I forgot who on here was collecting covered bridge pictures. Happened to trip over this one. Just getting some repairs after the Hurricane Irene washouts 2 years ago.
That is St Marks Catholic Church right across the road. Looks bigger than it really is on a knoll like that..

Thanks for the pictures. I don't collect the pictures but I always find them very interesting. I always think about all the hard work and nice wood that went into making them and how nice they made them look. I am not aware of any covered bridges here is Wisconsin. Paul

Parke county Indiana has several covered bridges. They have an antique tractor tour the last weekend in June to see some of them by tractor. 2014 will be the 12th year of the tour, my favorite redneck vacation!

Dieseltech,
Park county is where Bubba attends Redneck Teck. Been going to covered bridge fest for decades. I know all the back roads to miss the heavy traffic. I live about 30 minutes away.

I miss Hillbilly Heaven, it's a place that sold ham and beans cooked over a fire in a large cast iron pot.

At Bridgeton, the Park County Antique Tractor association raffle off two tractors each year. That's their money maker. Nice people.

I missed the first tractor tour in Parke county, but have been to all the rest. Get teased because my tractor always has a cutdown aluminum truck top on for a sunshade. Had a homemade bubble machine on back this year for the kids in town to laugh at too. Always have fun on that ride, seeing old friends, and making new ones too!

Tony,
We lost a bridge totally to Irene.
A very significant bridge as well.
The fourth picture shows one of the remaining abutments; all that's left.

I can't understand WHY??? anyone would want to deliberately destroy a historic public landmark.

STUPID!!!

How about burn em at the stake with a fire out of some bridge remains. While it's the closest one to me I have never been to see it. Now I will never be able too.

Last I heard they were planning on building a replica in it's place.

IIRC, there are only two covered bridges left in NC. There were two in our county until a few years ago, when one fell into the creek due to lack or upkeep. In NC, when a stretch of roadway or bridge is discontinued use by the state, ownership reverts back to the land owner, who either has to maintain it or let it decay unless there is enough interest for some organization to take it over.
The remaining bridge was swept away by a flash flood a few years ago, but it was so well known that it was rebuilt. Many people volunteered time and they salvaged all they could of the timbers that had washed down the river and were able to use much of the original material. It is now designated as a historical landmark.

Actually, there might be several more. One right out of downtown Highlands was built on flat ground and moved by block & tackle over the creek. Another is down toward Franklin. Another is in Yancy county, don't know the road number. None have highway traffic. Only a driveway. All were built within the last 5-10 years.

This is about 15 miles away in the coastal range. Walt<a

Not many in Michigan, one less now that some fool burned the one near rrlund. One near me in St. Joseph County was severely damaged by some idiot trying to drive a cement truck over it, but has since been repaired.
