Wisconsin engine

I have been running a NH baler with a 2 cylinder wisconsin powering it and the engine doesn't have good power when the baler loads up and the governor kicks in,it hesitates and almost stalls then speeds back up. I am not pushing the baler to hard afraid that it will kill the engine,it runs like a sewing machine cranks good could this new gas be the problem? Do I need to add a additive to it? Any advice will greatly be appreciated

This newer gas is not likely to be the problem since most gas used in those older engine was low octane and not in same way as good as the gas now days. You may need to open up the main jet a tad bit or some other such thing. As for additives most are nothing more then snake oils made to waste a person $$

I will say at the start,I am not a Wisconsin expert, BUT, Most small engines act similarly under certain circumstances. When it falters and then catches back up, do you see black smoke out the exhaust? If so, the carb. may need adjusting. If one is running too rich, it will almost flood for a moment when the governor opens up.
Possibly the governor may need some adjustment, but many times if the governor is out of adjustment, it will "hunt" or run erratically under no load conditions. Just some thoughts.

I would use the 89 octane gas. If that carburetor has the main jet adjusting screw you need to open it as this will enrich the fuel mixture. Hal

We ran the wheels off a Hahn sprayer with a 2 cyl Wisconsin. I think it was something like a THD, can't quite remember. But we found out that the intake gasket would deteriorate. Also I bet your throttle shaft is loose also. Might get by with a new shaft seal. The guys are right sounds like it it lean. Alcohol tends to settle to the bottom of your gas tank. Stir it, before you start it next time. Might help. Oh almost forgot be sure you have clearance on your valves, can't run right with the valves not being able to shut. Vic

I've got three of those Wisconsin TE and TF engines and they run fine on the newer crap-gas with 10% ethanol. I'd suspect the main-jet orifice is partially plugged or set too lean.

Thanks for that good info,I will try opening the main jet a little and see if that helps, when the governor kicks in it doesn't blow black smoke so maybe it is running to lean.

Are you sure the carburatur isn't just plugged/gummed-up? Add fresh gas, then try closing the choke when it hesitates to see if it runs better under a load. If it runs better it's running too lean.

When was the last time the carburator as cleaned or overhauled?

On adjusting the jet if I screw the adjuster all the way in how many rounds should I screw it out far a starting point then screw it out a half round at a time til it is good?

Turn the adjustment screw CCW until the engine starts to smoke, then turn it cw just enough to stop smoking. Hal
