plow day woes

This is what I get for trying to plow 5 yr alfalfa with old dry weatherchecked tires. Left tractor at the tire shop, sounds like about $1200 to $1300 for a new pair. Pinched the tube I think, but had to drive from the far side of the field to load on the flat.

I thought that over, and decided that used ones would be about the same as what I had. New now will last as long as I'll need it, and maybe increase the value for my heirs when I don't need it any more.

Tire Town in Kansas has new 13.6 x 38's for $325 each and good used ones for $235 each...Call me tight but I just wont put high dollar new tires on an old tractor that spends most of its time in a shed....In 2012 I saw a nice M Farmall sell for $1200 on a sale..It had 4 new tires and the owner said that he had more than that in the tires...

I have bought some nice used tires off craigs list and also at farm sales..My E-4 Coop has tires that look about like the ones on your A JD...I'll go to Tire Town if nothing else turns up..

I might suggest Carlisle tires if your tire shop is a dealer for them. They are not that much more expensive than the cheap junk and have a fairly attractive tread pattern. They are usually cheaper than an American made Firestone and are more plies also.

I bought a pair of 13.6X38's for my late A. I'm thrilled with their performance.

Does Tire Town actually have the tires or are they just advertising them for that price? Over a two year period I called about 13.6 X 38 tires for a tractor I had - not once did they have them in stock.

Bought a new set of 13.6x 38 and new fronts for an Oliver 88 also new tubes. With tax and mounting came to almost $1350.00

Same here.

Guys,I was last to Tire Town 6-7 years ago before tire prices doubled..They had a large inventory then but I expect that some sizes are hard to get now..I wasnt looking for 13.6's then..

I had to put tubes in the 6-8 year old front Carlisles on my '50 8N with maybe 50 hours use due to micro cracks around the middle of the sidewall. I guess they don't like sitting in the sun. ymmv.
