I MUST BUY A WASHER FROM LOWES...

I DON'T WANT ANYTHING TO DO WITH WHIRLPOOL OR ANY COMPANY RELATED TO WHIRLPOOL.

I WANT ONLY A TOP LOADER.

That eliminates about half of lowes top loaders.

Please pick from just Lowes list of the BEST OF THE WORST.

Thank you for picking make and model.

I'll then do an internet search on your picks

LIST OF LOWES TOP LOADERS

Don't buy anything GE topload either! We had one two years, and the tranny went out! Would have cost over $400 to repair, so junked it!

Why not just make a internet search of the ones YOU pick? Your the one that has to put up with the dang junk they sell now a days. What makes you think we know anything more about then than you?

Whirlpool is junk. This opinion is from our experience. So many other brands are owned by Whirlpool they will get most of the business no matter what name is on it.
If you don't buy from Lowe's. I will recommend Speed Queen.

we bought a simple May Tag washer/drier set some years back been flawless so far, I do not like them with a lot of bells and whistles, think I gave around 800-900 for the pair about 4 years ago new

We bought a GE washer from Lowe's a while back and has been good so far. Lowe's gives a 10% Military discount to all active duty, retired and prior military. American Legion, VFW membership card is enough to prove you served.

Here's my pick: Maytag 3.6-cu ft High-Efficiency Top-Load Washer (White) ENERGY STAR.

Can't go wrong with a Maytag.

My Maytag (top load) WRINGER WASHER has been in use since the late 1940's , with very MINOR problems.

George, I'm kinda partial to Admiral. Have never had a problem with them. Bought my house with a 10 year old machine tat stayed with and have never had a problem.

Leonard

I had a Maytag that had bad bearing, dealer replaced washer under warranty. Buddy had LG with same issue, he got free bearing and had to put the bearing in himself. I think they all are as good/bad as each other.

Heard people who use WRINGER WASHER run the risk of getting body part pinched. Personally, I've never used one.

Does your old WRINGER WASHER still have the hit and miss motor on it?

A rock next to the lake is what we are currently using. Come winter we can't do the laundry outside. Bad case of hard water in the winter.

George as I understand you have a gift card, why not buy a good used washer from craigslist and use the 400 for parts to keep it going over the years,or is the card dated

I should have added, we have a used washer in basement. BOSS WANTS A NEW ONE AND IF THE BOSS ISN'T HAPPY, NO ONE IS HAPPY.

We MUST BUY from LOWES..........

I got a Maytag Centennial top load washer and front load dryer at Lowes a little over 3 years ago and have had no problems yet. The Centennials were the low end of the line with basic controls and no gadgets or frills. The washer I bought was their floor model because they didn"t have any others in stock. I offered to buy the floor model so they gave me about a $100 discount. Then when they went to the back to get the dryer, they only had one, and the box was damaged. We broke down the box to see if there was any dryer damage and there was a slight dent and scratch. They apologized and gave me another $100 off the dryer. I really got a good deal at Lowes and have been shopping there instead of Home Depot since.

Maytag no longer exists, except in name. You have a Whirlpool, which the OP states he wants to stay away from.

I bought a Speed Queen 2 yrs ago with no problems so far. Local mom and pop appliance store said Speed Queen is the best of the junk you get these days. They also said maytag and whirlpool are garbage anymore...used to be the best. It saddens my heart that you can't seem to buy quality anymore for a working man's pay.

(quoted from post at 19:12:17 10/19/13) We bought a GE washer from Lowe's a while back and has been good so far. Lowe's gives a 10% Military discount to all active duty, retired and prior military. American Legion, VFW membership card is enough to prove you served.

Sorry Merle, Lowes only gives the discount all the time to active duty or retired. Prior military, about half their customer base I imagine, only get a discount on Veterans day, maybe Memorial day too.

Those square tub Maytag wringer washers I cannot fine enouth to fill my demand in any condition. They will take a 2 horse Honda engine easy.

I was told by a salesman the last time I bought an appliance that Maytag is now made in China as well as most others.LG dishwashers are made in Korea and some Bosch is American made.I was looking at a dishwasher at the time and bought the LG.I haven"t had a top load washer for twenty years so can"t really comment although I have found Frigidaire appliances in general stand up well.

I have been running Whirlpool for the last 45 years at least. Current top loader is Whirlpool. Have had it for over 10 years and zero problems. Gets a good workout. Mine has a newer transmission and drive than the old cast iron they had years ago. The motor is an open frame design. Still using the original belt.

Sorry you are not happy with the product as when this one crashes I probably will buy another and it will definitely be a top loader. Family had a Bendix front loader when I was a kid and the top loaders came along and bye bye front loader. I guess history repeats itself.

I hear speed queen has a mechanical model that doesn't use
computer controls. It works, without getting so fancy?

It seems the rest have gotten so fancy they mess up upon
themselves pretty quickly, just too much going on to be
dependable.

Paul

Stay away from the big box stores and go to a small mom and pop store. The big stores don"t sell the same quality items that are sold to the little guy.I work retail and see the junk that the big stores sell when customers come in and want me to help them with the other guys junk

I also have a 3 year old speed queen. 10 year
warranty on the gearbox and tub. No fancy
readouts, very little electronics, made in
wisconsin i think. Also bought the matching dryer
this fall. Old washer was a maytag front loader.
Every one of those has a bearing go out around 3-5
years. Maytag only sells the entire drum for
something like 300 bucks. Local implement dealer
sized the bearing, and has a guy fix for 100 bucks,
probably 30 bucks if you can do the work yourself.

Check the Lowe's. The one in Auburn NY gave me that line so I
went to the one in Ithaca and they said Veteran discount is all the
time and that it is corporate policy and the Auburn store is wrong.

Pick a model and read online reviews . Some of them don't even wet the clothes on top of the pile. There are some porly made units out there.

Samsung and LG are (I think) made in Korea so they might be the least bad choice. Probably everything else is made in China and should be avoided.

I don't pay attention to online reviews. People only post because they got a lemon or because they're paid to write a good review. Almost all good reviews of anything are paid "astroturfing" - fake grass root support.

We bought a Roper washer and electric dryer a few years ago because they were rated least repaired in consumer reports. Got the set for $500 on sale. Still working fine.

I don't remember if the wife got ours at Lowes or Home Depot, but she bought the cheapest Amana top loader she could buy. Has two knobs, cycle and water temp. Haven't had a minutes trouble with it in the five or six years we've had it. Maybe it's been longer than that. I loose track of time.

Well, I wanted a front loader for the water savings so our 70 year old (or more) septic and leach field did not have to work so hard.

Wife did not want a Front loader under any circumstances period. Everyone we new had nothing but problems with them.

So that left Staber (an very unique and simple no name washer designed to be worked on and serviced by customer). Staber uses a unique rotating basket in a top load design but uses even less water than most side loaders. We went to the factory in Columbus, OH for a tour. Wife was not convinced as it is a neat unit but does have some quirks.

GE also came out with the Infusor line (Infusor replaced a traditional agitator inside their machine). The GE is a topload that used slightly more water than a side loader but much less than any other toploader made except for the Staber. We ended up with a set of these GE. Units have been problem free and have been used extremely heavly for the past 6 years. Our one dog 90lb was very sick the last year of his life and my wife was washing all his bedding daily (blankets, bed pads, etc.).

I will forewarn you the GE makes some unusual sounds but the manual even forewarns you about them. You can get the dryer with a plastic tub or a stanless steel tub (we opted for stainless).
If and when these eventually wear out then I will be buying another set.

PS: Whirlpool owns Maytag

I cant get list up, but heres my story. Around 2005 after a whole house renovation we bought LG front load washer, dryer, oven, dish washer and side by side refridge. We had an issue with everyone of them under warrenty. Once fixed they all have been great. The fridge came with dented rt. door. Four dented doors later we got a good one. The washing machine is out standing at cleaning. I had several pairs of work jeans i was ready to throw out and it cleaned them up like almost new. Very impressive. And my two cents
Jerry

I wouldn't buy an appliance from Lowes again. Bought a Kitchen Aid dishwasher. Had a slight ding in the door. Was suppose to get a replacement but it was dented worse. The installer said he installed a lot of dented water heaters from Lowes that came out of perfect boxes. Had other people tell me that Lowes sells seconds. Of course Lowes and the appliance companies deny it, but by experience it sure seems true. Like someone else said, buy your appliances from the mom and pop store. You'll probably be happier.

As a retired Locomotive Mechanic, (And what does
that have to do with washing machines..plenty)
I've seen BRAND NEW 1.5 million dollar GE
Locomotives with blown up engines on their first
trip out of the factory. AND...Locomotives have
Refrigerators,(dorm room size) to keep crew
lunch's cool, and I've seen plenty of GE fridges
in Brand new locomotives that were already broke
down. I wouldn't own anything made by GE !

My Whirlpool top loader is 23 years old. Has had two sets of the nylon pawls that run the agitator, and one new timer control. About 2 dollars per year maintenance.

George:

Had my fingers pinched a few times. And no, the motor was removed many years ago & replaced with an electric motor.
