gleaner n6 problem

My neighbor has a gleaner n6 and it keeps blowing the fuse for the separator clutch after a few minutes . I would like to go help him out but I don't know much about gleaners. Obviously I will trace the wiring and look for a short or something but if any of you have any ideas that would be great. thank you

I would go with looking for a short-----you"re dealing with a clutch where stuff is whirling nearby....can easily damage wiring...BTDT on Gleaners....had belts fail, then whip into wiring, tearing it out.....had to recover wire in a header clutch and reconnect....even drilled out space with a dremel tool to recover wire and re-connect...then fill in with epoxy. Worked til next time, eventually had to buy the clutch. $800 factory, half at salvage yard.

Not many Gleaners around here. Mostly John Deeres and Case/IH. Some farmers had them but when they had a problem they could not get much dealer support. I had an older one a F model and it seemed to do a good job. I sold it to another farmer and he ran it for years. He grew into BTO and I don't believe he even knows where parked it.

If the bearings start to go in the main shaft it will cause the clutch to wear into the windings. Causes this slow blow condition. Eventually it will cut the wire completely and no more feeder drive. Fairly big job to tear apart, but not too bad. Replace the feeder drive belt while you have it apart. I was able to have an electric motor shop rewind my clutch.

I figured it out. the clutch for the chopper is the problem. its wired into the same circuit as the separator clutch. only took an hour tracing wiring harnesses. thanks for the advice
