County fair pic

While I was thumbing through my cellphone pics I came across this one. I took this heart warming pic at the local county fair last month. I could tell at a glance she and her heifer have a very close bond. I don't know her name and I hope she doesn't mind having her pic put on the net. It's a truly complimentary shot. Jim

That's priceless! At the end of the day between the
ribbons, plaques, and that bond, the bond will
always be remembered.

I'm not believing it for a second. When I was kid we could go out into the pasture next door and lie like that against pretty much any of the dry cows that were there as they were chewing their cuds. Maybe not this kid but I have seen plenty that I know are not anywhere near as interested in their animals as they are hanging out with friends, and parents have to fight them to get them to do chores. Then when it is fair time suddenly they are all for getting the attention by suddenly showing their heifers all kinds of attention.

I've seen that same sort of thing at the Franklin County Fair(NNY state) every year and I'd expect to see it at any county fair in the country.

Wow, that hit me hard, supported 4H throughout my dealership years and it just tells me how important 4H is, gee thanks for posting this, its a front pager!

Now, now, Showcrop, try to contain your Inner Curmudgeon. I think there are still plenty of farmey kids around.

The pic reminds me of many happy hours I spent at the local fair in 1965, reclining on the Jerseys of a very cute 4H girl from a nearby town. By the end of the fair, I had finally worked up the nerve to ask her out (we were both entering our senior years). She was very nice, but said that So and So had already asked her out. I kept tabs on her and So and So through another guy at the school. I finally gave up after a couple of months- they were still going together.

I think they celebrated their 45th anniversary recently. I'm trying to move on. . .

Yeah, I know that is tough. My daughter was one of those little blond girls that the photographers and news people sought out at the fairs. But she was always working on her lambs and never playing like she was asleep next to it. She is now 37, drop dead beautiful, still single, and still in the career that 4H led her into.

OK, I'll tell you why this pic touches me. I wasn't going to but now I will. My daughter was in 4H with lambs and rabbits. She worked very hard at it and won some prizes. She met many friends at the fair as she was a people person. Nine years after she graduated she went to heaven. This picture reminds me so much of her. Nuff said! Jim
