OT Craigslist Email

Having a lot of Craigslist ad responses wanting my email address to communicate about an item. Why do the want my direct e mail address?? Scammers?? Don't understand why the craigslist e mail isn't good enough?

I don't know whats going on with craigslist email. It used to be that when someone emailed you it came in as their real email address. Now it comes in through a craigslist email. I imagine its to stop spammers/scammers. Its a real pain for me. I sell firewood, and I used to just save all the email addresses. Every year I would send a mass email with price, availability etc. Now I cant do that...oh well.

I haven't run into that as I don't use the e-mail. I always check the box that hides it. If an interested party can't take the time to pick up a phone and call me then that's too bad. I have sold everything I've ever listed with no problems, usually within a few days. I have several 0's in my phone number so I switch one or two out with a capitol O and that stops the spammers.

Thats why CL does that to stop spam and junk emails. Did you ask your customers if they were ok with being on your mailing list?

Spam. I get them all of the time, they sound real, but wanting you to message them back at a live.com email address. Ignore the message, and clink on the link on the bottom of the email, and it will bring up a Craigslist page, and mark it a scam, or spam.

Caseyc, some of us do not have the time or patience to play "phone tag". Also, I would much rather be contacted through the secure email that craigslist provides than to put my phone number out there for every scammer in the world to see. If you don"t have time to respond to emails, I probably am not interested in what you have to sell.

No need for phone tag as I use my cell which is always with me. I have never gotten a spam call. Spammers use automated computers to scan for numbers. When you switch out a digit like I do or even spell out one digit the computer doesn't recognize it, so my number is pretty safe. My wife uses the e-mail option and she gets more spam than legit buyers. Sorry that you would choose not to do business with me for that sole reason.

At least you read the emails you get. Around here the ones that dont put a phone number often never respond to the email. In the long run, phone numbers peak my intrest more, as that also allows my dad, who dosent use internet to get in contact with the seller. Its such that if theres no phone #, I figure we dont need it, cause they dont really want to sell.

Rusty I totally agree with you. I sell on cl all the time but NEVER list a phone number. I do not want ever so and so having my phone number . I just tell them reply to cl e-mail with a phone number and I will call you back. Stops all the BS. I advise anyone to never put their phone number in the add.

CL E-mail is a double firewall, you don't know their address, and vice versa. If they ask for my address, i give them my phone #. I also spell out one # in the area code, cause, they can't directly copy it and use it to sell to a list!

The phone book , which is free to anyone, is chucked full of "phone numbers" if scammers want them. That don't fit their scam. The last thing a scammer wants to do is talk person to person with anyone! I agree , punch the "no-e-mail button" and leave phone ##. I've sold plenty off craigslist and never had a problem since I started the e-mail delete . If one wants what I have for sale, one WILL call the number. As far as buying, I have had NO luck with people who won't leave their number. I think they believe their time is more valuable than mine. Funny thing is, I have the money that you are trying to get and you have competition!

You may have your cell with you at all times, but that does not mean I have the time right now to call you, nor does it mean you might not already be talking on your phone. Sending an email is quick, and then I don"t have to go looking for the listing again.
