Dad had the six batteries replaced in his EZ-GO golf cart a month ago or so. He took it to a fairly good sized dealer who supplies rental carts to golf courses and shows, and delivers them with a semi just to give you an idea of the size of this business.
Anyway, the dealer charged him $50 for disposal of his six old batteries. He was complaining about it to me, but he complains about cent he spends so I let it go in one ear and out the other.
Fast forward a month. Today I bought six new batteries at O'Reillys for my EZ-GO. The price I paid for the batteries was about what dad paid the dealer's but O'Reillys PAID ME $115 for my old batteries.
Is this normal for a golf cart dealer to charge for battery disposal when the auto parts dealer in another town gives money back? Does O'Reilly's have a better outlet for the old ones because of their size? Is it more bother for the golf cart dealer to handle them or does the dealer have to pay a disposal fee to get rid of them? Or is the dealer just making a little extra money off an old man who can't change them himself?
Another question-the date tags weren't marked on my old batteries. They were Interstates. The only other markings we saw on the batteries was '003' melted into the top of the case. The manager at O'reillys was pretty sure the numbers meant manufactured in 2003. If so, those babies lasted a long time. Do any of you guys know if this '003' number could be the date or is it something else. All six batteries had this number on them. Jim
