pull F250 Auto

I have a 2001 F250 auto. My wife took my key and wont be back for 8 hrs and I need to move my truck.

Is there a way to release the stearing lock and put the truck in neutral so that I can pull it out with my tractor?

The tow truck guys must have a way...

Any help would be appreciated - I can only pull forward from where it is parked.
Thanks, Grant

Does it have a manual transfer case? Could just put that in neutral. Otherwise, I think you need to go make some spare keys when she gets home.

unhook linkage @ trans & move selector arm might work-maybe more trouble than its worth, but I think rod just pops into plastic bushing--BLOCK WHEELS--don't let it roll over ya-

I am a wrecker owner/operator and the other two guys are both right. My first choice would be put the t-case in neutral if it's a manual shift type. If not then block the wheels and crawl underneath and pop the shifter linkage off and put trans in neutral. MAKE SURE THE TRUCK DOESN'T ROLL AWAY FROM YOU!!!

A word of caution, most of the time, if the shift linkage is removed from the plastic bushing, the bushing must be replaced.

Thanks all. I just had to push it 15' out. I popped the bushing - yes it cracked and I will replace it...but it is back together.

Flat ground - I still blocked it while under, but I needed the forklift to pull the truck.

Thanks, Grant

I would just hook onto it with a tractor and pull it out, yes it will slide the tires a little but for fifteen feet, pull it.

(quoted from post at 09:52:36 10/05/13) Id just leave it and wait on my wife to get home. No chance in tearing something up and/or getting hurt.

But what if as the original post stated "I NEED to move my truck"?
