Deere 4010 draw bar question

Hey guys, I just bought a Deere 737 mower, big old guy takes a 14 foot cut. I want to pull it with my 4010, which has a 4020 moor and makes close to 100 horse. The pto is about 3 inches too long to slide onto my pto shaft and on this mower the pto is rigid so you can't use the knuckle to angle it on. I was wondering can I lengthen my draw bar, are they adjustable or do I have to make an extension for it.

there are several holes in the draw bar, yes. Pull
the pin underneath and extend out. I do that for my
discbine, slide it back in for the baler.

Matt first off you have the model number of the Mower wrong. JD never made a 737 mower/conditoner other than a Zero turn lawn mower.

Second your draw bar is adjustable. You just remove the front pin and slide it in or out. IF you would tell us what PTO you need(540,1000) we could tell you the length you need to set it at.

Also if it is a 14 ft. mo-co then your tractor is going to be too little unless your in real light hay. A 14 ft mo-co in heavy hay can work the heck out of a 150 PTO HP tractor.

Jd seller it has 737 gyramor painted in yellow on the gear box.
Ill post a pic. I imagine it will be a handful for my 4010 I just
have a few acres to mow and the price was right

I got you now. The JD 4010/4020 motor will do fine on a 14 rotary cutter. I had forgotten that JD did have that model of rotary cutter. I just jumped to conclusion that it was a Mo-Co.

You just need to set your draw bar to the correct length. That would be measured from the center hole in the draw bar to the end of the PTO shaft on the tractor.

540 PTO would be 14 inches and 1000 PTO would be 16 inches.

In the picture you would lift (#22) up and slide the draw bar into the correct hole for the PTO length you need. You can see in the picture you have three holes to chose form.

From your picture, I'm not sure you have a factory drawbar on that tractor. Most rowcrop 4010's had the offset drawbar shown in JD Seller's diagram. Your drawbar is straight and it is thinner than normal.

Have you considered bolting on a strap below that drawbar to create a new drawbar hole at the proper 14 or 16 inch position?

Nice heavy wheel weight inside that rear wheel.

JD made a drawbar extension for use with swathers and balers of
the day....1970's give or take. It's purpose was to set up the U
joints on the front of the shaft so that in a turn they would be at
a 45 degree angle and reduce vibrations and allow sharp turns.

I bought my last one from a local used tractor dealer. He had an
accumulation of things of the sort that he obtained over the
years.

It had a pin in it to match the hole in the drawbars of the
implements described, but you could knock it out and have your
pin hole.

In addition to what has already been said, make sure
there is plenty of length there so there will enough
'slide' there as so to not 'bottom out' when turning
corners.Bottoming out is bad.You can damage the
implement or tractor(as in bend/break the pto
shaft),or both. Also,if the drawbar will not slide
out enough,it is easy to make an extention.
