hydraulic valve question

Working on a project and I have a older valve and it is not marked as to in or out. Does it matter? Just wondering if they have a in for the pressure line coming from a pto pump and do I need a pressure regulator on the tank return line? Thanks for the info.

If it is a 2 port valve I think it does not matter if a 3 port then the center is from the pressure side of the pump. You do need a relief valve in the system or you can/will blow the pump to pieces guess how I know that one LOL Yep had one blow due to over pressuring the system

The pressure regulator would go between the pump and the valve with the bypass hose back to the reservoir.

This bypass hose is not your return hose. It would only be used if the pressure regulator was compromised.

Thanks for all the good info. Don't see and number or lettering on the valve but it does look like it has a pressure regulator on one side with a 3/4" port , so I take it as being the in port. Thanks again for the help.
