Any Knowledge of Ford 671 Select-o-shift

I have a gang of parts that I need a Q & A about. The first Q is what is the second cable out of the transmission and what it does? What I call the first cable hooks to the dash mounted shifter which I do have. The second cable is an orphan and I have nothing to hook it to. There is a hole in the top of the trans, about the size of a cantaloupe, that must be the mount for something maybe related to this second cable??What is it and what do I need?
Second question: is there an external way to tell a 134" OHV 6XX series from a 172" 8XX engine. I do not have to disassemble the engine but I would like to know what size it is. Back in the racing days, we could pump the engine into a P & G checker for a quick displacement check.

Ask this on the Ford forum... more apt to get your answers there, especially about the SOS.
The two cables on the SOS are for gear selection and starting and stopping the PTO.
There are casting numbers on side of the block, near the distributor. I don't know then offhand, but several guys on the Ford board do...they'll be able to tell you which block you have.

First of all it's a Select-O-Speed.
The second cable is for the Independent PTO and the T handle to operate it is installed in the aft end of the right hood side panel.
The hole in the top of the trans the size of a cantaloupe is where the steering box attaches.
A 134 will have a casting number on the right side of the block- 310905 if it's a 1959 tractor. The 172 casting number is 310609. If it's a 1960 model the 134 block casting number is B9NN-6015-C and the 172 casting number is B9NN-6015-J.
