89 year old neighbor lady stopped by asking if I was interested in her husbands old M. He died 5 years ago and it has been setting in a leanto(sp). I charged the battery, flushed the gasoline tank, cleaned the carb and started it.
It will idle, but won't take the throttle without pulling the choke out. It is a 1940(65000 serial number) with decent tin and one new rear tire. One rear rim needs patched. She said he paid $1800 for it 15 years ago and that is what she wanted for it. I offered $800 and left the ball in her court. She went to school with my mother and I felt kind of bad, but just couldn't come anywhere near $1800.

$800 is all its worth--to you.But it was her husbands tractor...She probably needs the money.it has one new tire...Be a sport and go anead and give her 1200,or aven a little more. There is more to life than "dollars"(money)

Should I tell her you are in at $1800 and get you a phone number. I have a guy who can haul it for about $600 almost anywhere in the USA. You would then only have $2400 invested in a $1000 tractor. Then you would be the nice guy. LOL.

Put yourself in her shoes. It grieves her to sell
her husbands tractor. They were probably married
for 60 years. She probably needs the money. Then you
add to her pain by trying to 'steal' it at
$800.Tell her its worth $1000 at best in its
present condition.Offer 1200.She could say no,she
could say yes.The extra $200 would probably not
hurt you much,if at all.Think of it as a "charitable contribution" to a worthy cause. The extra 'blessing' you
cheerfully pass along to her will be returned to
you later. And yes,I have done similar things like
that for'widows and orphans'.I will continue to do
that. Its the right thing to do.The "good will" has
ALWAYS been returned back to me in excess....Pay
it foreward!

Agreed. Had she tried to sell it "not running" with a bad rim she wouldn't get the price of the one good tire.

$800 is fair. As someone else posted she probably has a half section worth a million dollars.
