I just bought a 2003 case 40xt and wanted to do my own service to know its done right.

This loader is for on the farm work- ie small beef farm/snow removal/ minor dirt work/ cut wood and the like.

I live south of Duluth Mn by an hour and have seen 30 below many times. Wish I could afford a heated shop but cant right now.

I want to the best oil money can buy so do I go with sythetic---Amsoil or mobil 1 or Dino Oil?

I of course will plug it in and stick a magnetic heater on the hydo resivor when its cold but want to make sure it has the best lubrication when i fire it up to feed a round bale or clear up some snow.

I can't seem to find the same answer. I stopped at two dealers one said yes synthetic the other said no dino oil.

What do you all think?

Millions of engines have lasted well over 10,000 hours on conventional oil. The type of oil is the last thing to worry about. Maintenance and use do more to determine how long an engine will last. Plug it in, let it warm up and then also let it idle for a couple minutes before shutting down will do more to prolong engine life than using synthetic oil. Change the oil and filters regularly and you'll be good to go. You bought the machine used so there's no way to know how it was maintained in the past or what oil was used. If there's engine wear, synthetic oil is going to fix it. I think it's throwing away money. If you were needing to start it in -30 all the time, then maybe a 5-40 or 0-40 synthetic may be a benefit.

In the USA and Canada - pure petro oil can be legally branded and sold as 100% synthetic. So many think they are buying synthetic oil and are not.

The only gains with true synthetic oils is a broader viscosity temp range and a higher flash point.

That being said, many pure petro single-grade oils e.g. Shell Rotella have flash points over 420 degrees F while many oils sold as "full synthetic" have flash points of only 380 F.
