Nope. Mine were built when government was about 10% of the size it is now. Politicians were a little more willing to talk to each other back then, or so I'm told..... 1950's.

The problem doesn't seem to be the politicians not talking to each other, they seem to do that just fine. The problem is the majority of the politicians, especially on the Pres's side, have a problem LISTENING to what the people say....and have absolutely no problem TALKING and telling us what they think is best, regardless of what WE say when we talk to them....

Your tractors will do what you want them to do, unlike certain politicians. No big deal, govt has been shut down 17 times since 1976 from 1 to 21 days and they are still going strong.

I guess it all depends on who "we" are. I hear a lot about what "The American People" want and none of it is true for the American people as a whole since we do not all agree on anything last I checked.

What happens if the government shuts down and we figure out that the world won't end because of it? We should petition our government for a few constitutional amendments 1- they will pass a budget every year, any time we don't have a budget neither Congress or the Senate doesn't get paid and the government looses it's taxing authority (can't collect taxes for that period, if we are without a budget for more than 4 weeks congress and the senate is dissolved and we'll have a new election in 6 weeks with incumbents ineligible to run for their old seats. 2- Tie size of the federal budget to our economy, meaning if our GDP goes up they can increase the government's budget BUT if GDP goes down so does the government budget or to put it another way if you screw up and crash the economy and the GDP drops 20% so does their budget.

Might be a good idea to shut the congress down for about 6 months. Just think of the mistakes we could avoid without congress and the political shenanigans.

"Afraid my old tractors won't start tomorrow if the guvment shuts down" - Ellis

Gas or diesel? Sometimes with the heat, you can get vapor lock. Try loosening the cap on the fuel tank. Have you checked the pressure in your tires? Low tire pressure might be the cause of weak batteries and popping out of gear. Are any of them eqipped with sawmill belt pullies? You don't polish them do you? If so, you may wanna consider wheel weights to offset the belt slippage. Blue/green antifreeze versus pink. Sometimes they don't mix well, especially if you are running hotter plugs and a rain cap. There are some other things to consider, but short of splitting your tractors at the rear PTO shaft seal, let's try these first. Personally, I have found that a 6 to 12 volt conversion sometimes helps. Not always unless you include a battery with the conversion.

Good luck though, and what color are your tractors? Sometimes paint color can be the problem too.

you have an hour and a half to enjoy your tractors before they quit!

Watch the crankcase pressure go up as the night goes on :)

You got that right. "The will of the people" at one time prohibition was also the will of the people.

The tractors will still start but who knows what will happen since as we sit now days they people in D.C. do not have a clue what it is to do the right thing and do not have a clue as to what we as a gov. should do to help the people. It is now days by the rich for the rich and screw every body else

I wish the government would really shut down -- as in cease to exist, we need term limits now!!!

We need to just buy tractors from government auctions. That way, when everything else shuts down, they will still run. That is what it looks like. Politicians are paid even if the rest of the world shuts down. All the politicians seem to be more concerned with running for re-election or a higher job and no concern for the people that got them elected.

Funny part about this shut down over the medical issue- about 3 or 4 years ago, some members of one party demanded a program just like this be passed. It did not. A short time later, the other party came up with a very similar bill and the first group has been trashing it ever since. It does not matter what bill is brought up, if it is supported by one party, the other side is dead set against it, good or bad for the people.

Amen to that. A government shutdown saves the taxpayer money. Museums and monuments shut down? You could close them permanently and the sun would still come up, I'd still eat, have a roof over my head. Same goes for the "sequester". Take 10% off the top of EVERY program, heck, take 20%. In fact, there are entire departments that could be eliminated (EPA, NHTSA, Education) and we'd probably be better off. They're part of the "nanny" government mentality.

And term limits are definitely a positive step. We've got them here in Michigan.

The idea of requiring insurance may rattle the "don't make me buy something" crowd but I am less concerned about the "requirement" than the fact that the government (you and me as taxpayers) are subsidizing it for a "special interest" group of people (low income). They have no (or low paying) jobs but spit out babies like watermelon seeds with different fathers who often don't stick around. There is no consideration about how they're going to afford to raise them. They use their Bridge Cards (SNAP program) to buy junk food, use Medicaid, kids get free lunch in schools (what the heck is the SNAP program for then?) and they've got more gold around their necks, tattoos on their arms ($$$$) and $100 painted nails. I drive through Detroit and most business blocks are burned out, but there will be a half dozen beauty salons in a mile or so advertising $50 do's.

If the poor want to live like that, fine. I just have a problem with the rest of us subsidizing everything.

Back to my original point, I have multiple insurance policies like the rest of you (health, life, home, auto, etc) and I pay for them. That means I can't afford to buy a lot of things because I'm on a budget. The external_link constituency thinks they are entitled to everything that you and I work for WITHOUT having to pay for it. Rant over.

We already have term limits on every elected position. If the voters choose to extend the term of their politicians, whose fault is that? People/voters need to take responsibility for their own actions. Legislating term limits is just one more piece of useless, redundant legislation, more government telling us what we can and can't do...

The problems would all be solved if they instituted carbon taxes , cap and trade exchanges and confiscated all guns.

Yup, a good example of the problem. Cap and trade was a nnalert idea - which they then decided was a *terrible* idea once the nnalert decided to actually do it. Neither side can stand to see the other side accomplish anything. They're too busy pi$$ing in each others beers to actually think about doing their job...

I did read yesterday that the congress will still get paid. Would you say we have the fox in charge of the hen house? I think so.

That's because Congress considers itself "essential" personnel.

It's like the old joke: I always thought my brain was the most important organ in my body. Then I realized who was telling me that...

Everyone hates congress and wants term limits but then 90% of the congressmen and senators get re-elected.... over and over and over.

Who's fault is that?

I hate congress...except my guy...duh?

I like your way of thinking wisbaker. And to keep it tractor related, I am going to the farm this afternoon to see if my Farmalls will start. I bet they will, except the F-14 which needs a fuel pump overhaul.

Guys,, the reason we are in trouble....

Due to Gerrymandering, now we have districts of extremists.. extreme left and right. So the elected person is an extremist.

Back when our districts were just squares on a map, the representative had to be a moderate and cater to all and the good of the "all".

So its the redrawing of all the districts to get all the extremist in one district that has broken our government and got it to the position we are in today.
