Last night We went to our Sons first band competition. It took place in an town SW of Charleston called Walterboro. Not familiar with where the new High School was I looked it up on the computer and got directions But did not print them out as I am familiar with that area as it was very near to where my first MIL grew up. IT sent us to the far side of the town toward Islandton and we drove as far as Scuffletown Before we turned around. Drove back to Walterboro and asked for directions. Finally found the school and when we got out of My truck we could here our band playing paid $18 to get in. We stepped up to the fence to see the Whole band fall on the ground which is the very end of their routine. Thoroughly disgusted we sat through two more bands and then sampled some of the local cuisine and went home as we could not see our son and the awards Ceremony we figured would be long. When our son got home we learned that they took first place over all. So a wonderful 100 mile road trip for some cold chicken tenders. Although I would do it again as it meant a great deal to our son for us to be there.
Still have not figured out why the computer sent us on such a wild goose chase.

Yep GPS got to love to hate it. To me stand for go places stupidly. Seen more then one time GPS has sent a person 20 miles out of the way to get some place. Like one guy who came to my place. He was sent 7 miles south of me just to have to dive up a long way on gravel to get to my place. He asked if there was a better way and I said ya go right at the end of my drive way then left at the fist corner and you hit Hwy 5 and from there 4 miles from town but GPS took him 7 place miles out of the way

The directions on the smart phones apps seems to be even worse than the Internet ones.

I used to use Map Quest. I have had better luck lately with Google Maps. If I am looking up somewhere totally new I switch to the satellite view to see if what I am looking for is actually where the system says it is.

An example of this is the Filmore Golf Course. They have the regional Cross Country Meets there every fall. My son gets cars down his Private lane looking for the gulf course. His drive is 9 miles away from the gulf course.

So I can easily see you getting lost looking for a school.

i went back to a trucker type road atlas. after being late for an auction thankes to a gps. they send you crazy routs.

I bought a Michellin road map of North America before my first trip to Canada back in 1985....I have managed to find my way around 36 American States since without any GPS! And I still have not even lost the map book! The thing I like about this book is it has pages in the back of the book of the cities and built up areas giving you more up close detail.....This has been handy once or twice, but I travel over there to see your countyside not a stinking city!! Only thing I look for in a city is the bypass road! LOL
We have big problems over in the UK with sat nav (GPS) sending trucks and cars down tractor paths into fields etc! They also don't warn the truckers about the low bridges!

Don't feel bad. The map app on the apple phones would send you across the runway for the Anchorage AK airport. After having multiple drive across the runway they had apple disable directions to their airport. They also say they have heavily barricaded that entrance.

When someone needs to come by here I give them the address, then offer simple directions. They almost always say....oh never mind, I have GPS.
I just say OK call me if you get lost.

When they call..lost, and they almost always do, I give them simple directions and they show up in 15 minutes.

Hey, the guy paid $300 for his toy. Why hurt his feelings by telling him it is not always accurate?
