Ford 8240SL

Hello everyone!
I've just picked up what seems to be a good deal on an 8240SL FWD with loader (bucket and spear) fixer-upper.
It needs the basics, like paint, and some new front tires. However, there is one issue that I could use some help on. The rocker switches to engage the FWD and the one that locks the differential, don't light up when clicked to on position and it doesn't engage the FWD or the Differential.
I was wondering where I should start? Is there a common issue that would cause this to happen to both?
It's a 95 Ford 8240SL with the 12X12 transmission.
Thanks!
Bryan

I'd start with the fuses. To be honest I'd have to look at an electrical diagram to tell you more than that on the electrics.
What I can tell you is that the FWD should be normally engaged... and if it lacks electricity it should engage. In other words... if it won't engage that could be a major mechanical problem like a lack of transmission oil pressure.
But... their could be some peculiar relay circuit there that is keeping the FWD solenoid energised but the control circuit has no power..
What you could do is find the FWD solenoid on the right side of the transmission and unplug it. If the FWD works then that tells you the problem is electrical.
Beyond that... check fuses on the diff lock in the fuse panel.
