price of small straw bales

In mid mn i am seeing $4-5 more and more on craigslist. I think this is nuts that people can sell for that much.

I live in west central Arkansas. A farmer has an ad in the Ft Smith paper for $4 per bale. Last year I needed a couple of bales of straw, went to the local co-op and paid $6 per bale.

I sold a load to our local COOP and got 4.00 a bale delivered I do not think it was out of line what I wanted as I helped them stack them in a building as well cost of twine fuel and parts are WAY up the days of 1.50-2.50 straw has went by the way side to me its worth almost that in fertilizer as I summer fallow my ground and make use of natural soil builders I do not use commercial fertilizers

South central Mn. I sell for $5.00 out of a roadside stand at end of driveway. Also sell corn shocks for 5.00 or you can buy the "decorating special" of two shocks and one straw bale for $12.00 Sell an awful lot during the fall.

Two dollars a bale wont even replace your P and K that left in the straw. That doesn't even account for the lost organic matter or the fuel and wear on equipment.

We usually sell for $4 or so. With some people we'll negotiate a little, others we don't. Depends on how they act and how many they buy.

My time isn't free either. If I gotta handle a bale 3 or 4 times, it's gonna take some $$ to account for it. Dad had that problem for the longest time- he'd never get anything for his time, just the product. He never got ahead any either. Now he's taken notice and he's starting to do a little better for himself.
