any of you guys that have some one else kill and process your beef, WHAT IS THE GOING RATE. i just had a steer butchered and hanging wieght was 934 lbs, cost me 705.30. about had a heart sttack.

I dunno about beef. But Mom wants me to deliver a hog to the butcher on the 6th. There gonna charge $20 plus 40 cents a lb hanging weight. Looks like about $120.

That's not far off. Last one was 800 hanging or so. Bill was $594. Mine does it by the pound. I prefer that. There's another outfit around here that has a sliding scale depending on what you get, etc. Seems like a good way to rip you off and hide it in the paperwork. I don't do business with them anymore.

Slightly off topic, but how many of you trust your butcher?
I had a buddy who had picked up a half a beef and he didn't get any sirloins or T-bones. The only thing the butcher would say was "Sorry, they must have been picked up by somebody else". Funny how this same butcher will sell sirloins and T-bones in the see-through freezer outright to anybody who will walk into the store.

Most butcher shops around here over the years have made most of their money by selling choice-cut steaks out of the customers hanging halves. Years ago, I have been in several and seen large amounts of sirloin steaks, T-bone steaks, rib eye steaks and very little roasts, etc. They simply sell the steaks at 100 percent profit. Oldest scam going. Tom

I have never got a fair deal despite trying to prevent getting robbed.
Wieghed a 1128 lb steer on certified scales on the way to slaughter house. Had made agreement a week earlier that I wanted to be there when it was cut up. Went by with feed mill rep to inspect carcass 2 days after it was killed. Hanging weight 792 lbs. WHAT! Roll him out and weigh him again. Told me it would be of no use since the carcass looses blood and srinkage. Weigh the #@^& calf. 649 lbs. They insisted it was srinkage. Feed mill rep explained that max yield freshly killed is 60%. Owner said"this one did well,you should put it in your ads".
