420 John Deere

Here's some information on the 420 John Deere from <a href="http://www.tractordata.com/farm-tractors/000/0/4/46-john-deere-420.html">tractordata.com</a>.

Hope this helps.

Live PTO was an option with the five speed transmission. So you need to look at each tractor to find out if it has live PTO or not.

Tractor data is not entirely correct, the 1 dad had did have 11.2X36 rear tires, wide front, 4 speed tranny so no live power, 3 point hitch. It was a lot nicer tractor than the MT it replaced, lots more power.

As JDSeller said, live PTO optional with the 5 speed transmission. I've never seen a 5 speed without it. And it is a 2 stage clutch if live PTO.

I liked mine a lot- only drawback was it was a little difficult to get on and off- close quarters, and stuff sticking out to bruise your knee. Finally started mounting it like getting on a horse, swinging leg over the seat, and that worked better.

My 420 had "live" power when you pulled both steering levers back and didn't push the main clutch in. Wore out two flail choppers doing that filling the silo and later pretty much ruined a third one cutting brush.
