im currently looking to buy a bobcat 743 1986yr the machine runs good but the hydros dont work at all. The guy selling it says the hydo control valve is bad and needs to be replaced. Just wanted more info on this maybe some other peoples thought on whether or not this would cause the hydros to completely fail or if it is a pump or motor.

The answer is not going to be available from remote control (free advice here). The analysis and repair are an on site task. From the pump drive to filters and screens to pressure relief valves, to internal massive leaks, to missing control links, the complex system is tough to advise without being there. I would not buy it unless the hydraulics were working. I would not pay to have someone else's trouble diagnosed unless they paid for the professional fix and subtracted it from the set price. Jim

If neither side will drive, it is possible that the pump drive went bad. This would dissable both pumps. On any hydro system that I have worked on for skid steers, there is no pump control valve. They are piston pump with moveable swash plates. These plates are hooked up to the linkage from you control handle. As you move your control handle, it moves the swash plate from neutral, thats where the pistons aren't moving in the sleeve and are pumping no oil, to the corrcet position for the speed you want whether it be forward or reverse. I have never seen both sides go bad at the same time because each side is a separate system with it's own pump and motor. I'm not saying it can't happen but, I would check the pump drive system first.
