Woke up to no power this morning

Had an electric company truck roll in looking for the problem. A bit later they stopped back by and said one of the other crew looking had found a squirrel that had committed harry carry by climbing up on top of a pole and then tried to cross the wire on top. By the way it is raining here so the squirrel was a direct short. Talk about fried squirrel LOL

Last summer a big hawk picked up a good sized black snake. Landed on the top wire of the 169 line, snake dangled against the natural, real loud zap. remains of both hit the ground, guess the snake paid the hawk back.

That happened here some years back, darned Raccoon got up there. I've heard of squirrels doing it too, sort of a non frequent thing, but happens.

I like when the power company has the tree outfits in to clear around the lines, some of what they do is odd, as one tree on the circuit here, that lost a huge limb 6-27-07 during an intense storm, (did not forget that date, we were out for 12 hours or so)stretched the primary wires about to the ground, was like something out of a Wile E Coyote cartoon. This tree is decayed, old and really at the end of its life, they left another bigger limb so it can fall and do the same thing. You'd have thought they'd have taken care of it, coordinated with the homeowner if need be, its very close to the lines. Don't matter to me now as I have solar back up power, I do not even notice when it goes off for the most part, not to brag or be ignorant, you'd think they would save themselves the trouble in fair weather, vs a storm LOL !

(quoted from post at 19:08:54 09/20/13) I wake up with no power nearly every morning. I get feeling better as the day wears on though. :) TDF

Have you tried plugging in for the night? Should do wonders for your wakeup energy level!!

Billy,The property owner controls a lot or all of what or how trees get trimed. In some cases poles-wires have to be moved across the road or buried to avoid a serious conflict. Those people don't get too fast a service on a outage.

In Alberta where I live a they have the bounce type circuit breakers, resets itself three times before it stays off and has to be manually re set. Haven't had a power outage for years.

When I was still working we heard a LOUD boom, and everything shut down. We called the utility co.. They came and found two squirrels on the transformer. Male and female. The male was burned up the belly and the female was burned up her back. I have no idea what they were doing that could have caused a short circuit. LOL

the wife won't stand for it any more :(

Friend of mine once found a black bear that had gotten the notion it'd be a great idea to climb a power pole. It didn't work out too good for him!

Makes sense, but this tree is also impending doom over a very busty 2 lane state road, so besides the power lines, it stands a good chance to crush a car when it falls, and it will just give it time, oh wait, the primary wires will catch it, then maybe not, they've already been stretched to the ground once, then spliced.... seems to be foolishness, and its in the eminent domain measuring from center of road, there is no doubt about that.

Old, had the same thing happen to me many years ago a few hundred feet from my bedroom at 2 am. Sounded like a shot gun going off. I went outside and it smelled like "fried harry carry".

Ever get all your chargers fixed?
George

2 of the 3 big ones work so far. The third one I have not got working yet and been to busy to check it out much more. My thinking is the transformer is bad
