farmall a fan

I always have someone hold it with a pipe wrench while I losen it, could also put the crank in and hold it in place while you turn if the belt is tight enough
 
i can,t hold the nut behind the brackett that holds the fan on the one you loosen to change belt can,t get wrench in there to hold nut is there a special wrech ?i tried to get socket on it but no room toget anything on it. to close to motor
 
The nut by the block doesent turn it rides in a slot you turn the shaft in front of the bracket that holds the assy. Now your back nut mite be bad because someone tryed to turn it. So you will need to put a wrench on it and then turn the shaft. Mite need to replace the back nut with a new one to stop having your problem.
 
If I remember right the nut sits in a slot that sort of holds it so it will not turn so you have to screw the fan shaft it self in and out to loosen or tighten it up. Takes a thin wrench to do it by the way. Been at least 3 years since I have messed with the one on my BA which is half B half A
 
You dont turn the back nut next to the block you turn the shaft rite in front of the bracket. Someone probably has turned the back nut and rounded it off. It slides in the grouve and is not supposed to turn. You will need to put a wrench on it so it doesent turn then turn the shaft in front of the bracket.
 
No special wrench just an open flat one will work your old one mite be pretty well trashed you will want to replace it.
 
i,ve tried offset wrenches flat ,vice grips. if the lip wasn,t so deep you could get wrench on it,but it cast will mess up brackett if tried to cut at it.was told there,s to be a squre nut on back side?but i have two a,s and both are the same?the only thing i see is unbolt from head and try to find square nut ,that way it can,t turn i guess, but i,ll get the old one off to replace
