Looked at a 3055 on saturday. Very nice well taken care of unit. Low hours. What's the good and bad of this unit? I've heard things about the hydraulics and the clutch. We won't be running any hydraulic motors if that makes a difference. Thank You

Spent a summer in a 2955 w/sound guard (fwa)

I liked the 16F/8R trans, PTO took "just the right touch" to engage smoothly.

Didn't like getting in and out of the owl cage, had to tip the wheel forward EVERY time.

I think that setp (2wd, cab) would be a nice haying tractor.

I would run away from a JD 3055. They are an absolute nightmare to work on when something goes wrong. The hydraulics are poison when they do mess up. The dry clutch will not last long if you do heavy field work with it.

If you need a 100 hp Tractor spend the extra and find a JD 4050 or JD 4055. Much better tractor for not that much more money.

Is the 2955 the same? One coming in on a trade to my local dealer with 10,000 hrs. It is mfwd and used as a loader tractor in a feedlot operation. My gut says stay clear??

The JD 2955 and JD 3055 where much the same tractor. The 3055 was tweaked a little here and there an that made them harder to work on.

An example of this is the clutch. The JD 2955 had an external slave cylinder that worked a lever linkage to push the throw out bearing. The 3055 has the cylinder right behind the throw out bearing. If you have any issue with it you have to split the tractor to work on it. Have the cylinder leak and you have to split the tractor.

The JD 2955 with 10,000 hours with a loader is just a repair bill waiting to happen. It seems like if anything happens to the hydraulic system you have to rebuild the whole thing to get it to work long term. So great engine but terrible behind the flywheel.
