With all the flooding here inCo,I wonder how much flooding there will be when all that water gets to KS-NE and beyond. The three major affected rivers :Cache La Poudre,Thompson,St.Vrain all drain into the South Platte, which drains into the Missouri, then the Missippi. So,you guys in those areas, you under water yet?

Not yet!!!! Expecting a crest Wednsday? The only thing that MIGHT help us is that we have been so dry, that most of the irrigation systems are low on water. I am at Cozad, right on the Platte.

The family farm was at Big Springs NE, Maybe they will have to rename it Little River. Ha Ha
So many people have lost so much.

Lake McConaughy is only around half full. It seems like it would hold a lot of that water. There might be a chance to control the downstream damage.

I live on the N ST Vrain river west of lyons and it is still above flood stage. My wife and I were evacuated today by helicopter. Our house is fine but the state hwy 36 is damaged and washed away. our county road is still under 6ft of water no way in or out. There calling it the 1000 year flood. fema came knocking on our door and gave us 20 minutes, the national guard, fema ,boulder county sheriff all were top notch. it looks like we will be out for a few months. The water is heading east and flooding everything in its path.

The flood in June of '65 dumped 14" in 24 hrs. but it was centered more to the SW and, for the most part, spared the area north and west of Denver . It wasn't the Platte river system that time but the Arkansas and its' tributaries - What's going on now is a bad deal for sure but a thousand-year-flood? - not hardly

I was living in Pueblo at the time and [i:1896387c25]saw[/i:1896387c25] the flooded (normally pretty much dry) Fountain Creek breaking OVER the 4th street bridge which would require a bit more than 17 ft. of water to accomplish. At the Brewery Bridge (where the Fountain dumps into the Arkansas) the water from the Fountain actually caused the Arkansas to flow backwards for about 30-40 yards.

By the way, it took about 2 months (as I remember) for the flood waters to get to Great Bend, KS.

This summer the upper Mississippi River has been too low to float fully loaded barges. It is still very dry in central Minnesota and western Iowa.
