145 Versatile

Looking for opinions on whether to buy and how much to pay. Looking at a 145 Versatile. I think it was built in the 60s. 2200 hours on the machine. I know this is correct. 400 hours on the engine. Someone dumped a bunch of sand in it at 1800 hrs. 18.4 - 30 tires very good cond. Has a factory cab. Sheet metal is perfect and original paint is very nice. Runs excellent. The only thing it needs is new hyd hoses from the valves to the back of the tractor. Thank you for any replies.

For me the BIG factor would be EXACTLY what was rebuilt/replaced in the engine 400 hours ago; was head reworked? crank turned? mains? pistons?. Some folks say overhauled, and they really mean rod inserts and rings - - no mains, no crank work, no head work, etc. Tom

I"ve owned two, and still have one. Hydraulic system is dismal when engine is throttled down from 3100 RPM high idle. (Both steering and implement systems.) They will go 22 MPH, and when you pull the throttle back to slow for a corner, steering gets interesting.

The little V-8 Cummins 470 (or maybe a 504 has been retrofitted) is NOT the most durable engine Cummins has ever made and parts (sleeve assemblies, recon heads, etc.), are ASTRONOMICAL in price. Liner pitting/erosion will be a problem unless is has been kept up to date with DCA, and they are known to leak coolant past the sleeve "O" rings into the crankcase from time to time even WITH DCA.

If you are going to play with it and not pull it"s guts out, you will have fun with it, and it will probably hold up.

It had a complete overhaul. Heads done, sleeves and pistons, crank turned and all new bearings. Any idea what it"s worth. If I buy it, it will probably never see any work. Thanks
