Which oil..OT

I bought my daughter a '09 Corolla a few months ago. Her boyfriend talked to the dealer that was servicing it before I got it and they said they were using 5W30. The filler cap says 5W30 or 0W20, which is syn. Do you think I should switch?

This ought to cause a good discussion.

By the way, I just bought a Tundra. More discussion. I've had GMC's for 30 years. I'm going to draw my MF 245 behind it. Now it's tractor related.

Did you mis-type? Dealer said 5W30, and cap says 5W30?? Looks like 5W30 Mobil One would be good if your typing is correct. Tom

What condition is the engine in?
How many miles are on it?
If the engine is in good condition and doesn't have extraordinarily high miles I'd run 5w30 Mobil1.

0W20 is pricey, obviously. Lots of places look at me rather odd when I ask for it. I put it in my 07 Tundra.

I ordered it new. We have a love hate relationship. I hate that I didn't wait until a few bugs had been worked out (the dealer has eaten a lot on repairs) but I won't ever have anything else. Pulls everything I hook to it and chases cattle with the best of them. Oh, and I have pulled my tractors with it.

Got to agree with you about the Tundra, I've had ALL the others and will stick with Tundras. I had a 2000, 2005, 2008, 2011, and just now going for my 2014. Easily pulls a Bobcat® or a small backhoe.

I think the cap says 5W20 or 0W20. I run Mobil1 full-syn 5W20 in my '09 Corolla, changing at 5000-6000mi with the Toyota filter. 192,000mi with 0 issues and 36.5 mpg average.
