Local grocery store here has recently added gas pumps. 3.49 for low grade, 3.62 for medium. 3.99 for premimun. Premimun is ethanol free. diesel is 3.83. You want ethanol free, it's availble but you're pay for it.

But just think how much better of the investors will be when you buy "real" gasoline. Sure it'll cost you more, but they'll be real grateful.

(quoted from post at 20:24:14 09/09/13) You mean I should not be using E85 in my 73 year old Farmall? And it ran SO good.

A couple years ago Dad bought gas ands deisel from a different supplier, who only sold ethanol free gas. We had more trouble with that tank load of gas than we ever have with e10 blend. I had a 95 Olds acheiva that got better milage on E20 than it ever did on E10 or ethanol free. Tried it in my VW and it wasn't as fond of it, but it still ran just fine.

The manual for our JD 425 lawn tractor says it can run 10% 87 octane.

I'll run premium in my mixed gas, but that's only because it's only a gallon every now & then.

Paid $ 3.23 for 87 octane 10% E today in Tennessee. Going back down after the holiday. Road taxed diesel is $ 3.69 today also down about 5 cents from last week.

Old,
Ever think that record profits means record payout to stock holders and record taxes to uncle sam? Gas companies aren't owned by stock holders. So if you have any money in the market, retirement funds, 401k, you own part of that gas company making record profits.

People making the big money are the traders in futures, not the gas companies.

Ya but it still goes back to the fact the people with the $$ screw those that do not have the $$. Always has been and always will be the rich get richer on the backs of the poor

Many times, it's the people with brains are the ones who have figured out how to make the money, ex Bill Yates, Steve Jobs, Sam Walton, the list goes on. Can't see how they have screwed the poor. But I can see how the rich are getting screwed with taxes.

The harder part is not making money but figuring how to keep it with out someone taking it from you to spread it around to people who are too lazy to work.

I've been semi-retired for 10 years. Many times I thought of starting up another business. Each time I changed my mind. I asked myself, why do I want to work and send in more tax money to people who tax SS, pension, and 401k. Because my SS will only add to my taxes, I haven't signed up for it until I completely go out of business. May wait until I'm 70 to draw SS and sell out.

I feel the rich are the ones getting screw and the richer they get the more they are getting screwed.

People love to complain about the profit the oil companies make, but consider this- The oil companies invest in massively expensive refineries, exploration, etc, hire a lot of people, supply them with pensions, etc. and collect about 9 cents per gallon of gasoline. Meanwhile, here in my state the FEds and State collect 70 cents on every gallon of gas sold with ZERO investment, ZERO risk, ZERO effort and the they tax the oil company AND the guy buying the gas income too!!!

Just who is getting rich?

BTW- $3.86 here yesterday for the cheapest stuff i could find. Corner store is $4.22 for watery 87 octane/10% ethanol.

It's all Bush's fault and his rich oil buddies. When external_link took office gas was around $1.89. Go figure huh

Please do not misinterpret the word "profit". PROFIT is what is left AFTER all the bills have been paid. This includes the cost of exploration, all of the machinery, and all of the payroll.

Gas hasn't gone up as much as a lot of things.Bought any John Deere hydraulic fluid lately? The more US Dollars the Fed floods into the economy of the World the more of them it will take to buy things.Basic economics.

$3.73 in town last week, 3.89 delivered to the farm. Price difference used to be just the opposite when I first got the tank. Still worth it for the convenience, (gas station isn't open 24/7, and don't have a card operated pump), clean gas,( the cans used to collect water), less waste,(don't spill nearly as much) and better security, (Gas cans used to "walk" away from time to time, I have never lost any from the tank).

“On July 18, 2008, Michigan’s average price was $4.19,” reader Mark Ranzenberger wrote. “On Sept. 19, 2008, it was $4.03. Speculation drove the price of crude oil above $145 per barrel that summer, but the price collapsed into the $30 range late in 2008. The president, George W. Bush, had nothing to do with either event.”

(quoted from post at 18:44:55 09/09/13) Yep the the oil companies still are raking in record profits because they have us by the well

Old I can't tell you how many times I've read that oil companies are making record profits in the news. But I don't trust those folks in the news business to be completely honest. Keep in mind that if I have a business and I make one penny more this year that ever before I made a record profit. If next year I again make one penny more....well you see. So questions come to mind. Net or gross profits? Are those profits needed to stay in business. You want to be able to pay for things up front rather than have to borrow money to keep operating. One oil company is expecting to make 58 billion in total income this year. Don't know what they have to pay for this years operation but they expect to spend 36 billion in exploration and drilling next year. One of the things that got the "big 3" in trouble a few years ago was the fact that they were not making enough to pay day to day operations without borrowing money. They produce the oil and sell on the market. Bidders set the price. They may be making the profits but the bidders (speculators) set that profit. That's why certain politicians (most of them) who have claimed they were going to look into it have failed to do so. Plus there is nothing illegal in speculating on a market.

For reasons unknown fuel economy is officially rated at Liters per 100Km.
Personally I have precious little love for the metric and think in US mpg.
