i have never sold scrap, i view scrap as just 'in stock metal in case i need to build something" but i found something i want and i got to get the money for it somewhere other than the checking account,so says the mrs. lol she thinks she's got me here, i called the only relitivly near dealer which is a shady operation on a good day, he offered 20 bucks a ton, now i know scrap isnt paying like it used to, but 20 bucks seems light, real light

what i was going to scrap was a few odds and ends of dementional iron and a old farmall cub that was in a forest fire and a complete fifth wheel assembly off one of my kenworth trucks which since i havent had a use for it in 20 years i probably dont need only needed a couple hundred bucks for my new prize to get it, then lol it will probably need many hundreds

Surly you misunderstood him or something. Scrap iron mixed here in my home town is $230.00 a ton.
Sound like you have a rip off scrap yard. Not long ago we were getting $ 315.00 a ton for things like old dozers and tractors.

Right now our scrap yard in central MN is paying 175 a ton for car body and 165 a ton misc. scrap steel. And even more if its prepared iron.

Eric sounds like you'll be better off building something for your wife out of it! That would be a win win. Lol. I know how it is in NM I live in the northeast corner of the state, you have to drive two hours just to get to walmart. Lol

Son just hauled in a bunch of odds and ends scrap (old gates, fence wire, not top scrap steel) to East Dubuque. He got a dime a LB or $200 a ton.

My friend and I got a job cleaning out and old farm ditch of junk when prices were in the $330 per ton. Each morning we would take two trailers and load them up after cutting down some trees and removing fence and making different piles at the top. You name it and we uncovered it. For example we found 23 batteries, copper tubing, aluminum, radiators, window ac units, washers, dryers, ranges, old chevy pu body. We took out about twelve loads. Our timing couldn't have been better.

Is the fifth wheel unit good enough to use to pull a trailer around the yard? I've been kind of looking for one for moving storage trailers

NESD 155/ton unprepared. No rail service. Just like grain elevators, they pay less if it has to be trucked out. Mileage can be huge. Keep in mind that is the price delivered. If I had to upkeep a pickup and trailer, skidloader, chainsaw, torches, fuel etc,.....I sure wouldn't pay 155/ton, go to all the work to dig stuff out of the sod, fences and trees and then sell it for 155, but I'd pay more than 20. Depends on the job.
