Ford 600 Rear main wedge seals

I just put in the oil seals on the crank and am trying to put in the wedge seals in the side of the main bearing cap. The instructions say dip them in oil and immediately install. they are supposed to swell as soon as they have oil on them. I dipped them in oil, put them in and nothing happened. Took them out and soaked them for 1/2 hour and they are still hard as rocks. Do these things get too old to use? Any suggestions on where to get good ones? got these from a New Holland dealer.

I've installed a couple of those and am convinced that rear main seal wasn't one of Fords better ideas.
I would ask the fellows over on the Ford board.
Lot of experience over there. Someone will help you.

Welcome to the club. There has been more problems with those wedge seals than enough. And it does not matter what kind you choose. Heck Victor Reinz did away with the wedge seals and put a tube of RTV in the gasket set to use there.

If it were me I would get the rubber set with the little spikes you drive in. Coat the wedges with RTV (including the metal to metal surface where the cap meets the block) install the wedges; install the cap; drive in the metal spikes to expand the rubber wedges.
Once installed I would take some compressed air and blow on one side of the cap while spraying some bubble solution on the other side of the cap looking for possible leaks.
