Shouldn't be hungry this winter.

Dug the rest of our potatos today and brought in a few boxes of apples too. The wife picked the grapes and is preparing to make some grape jelly After that she is going to make some apple sauce to can for the winter. The cannned peaches and tomatoes are already in the storage area.
The pear trees are bending over from the weight of the pears and we have to find room room for them.

Will have half a steer for the freezer and usually get at least one deere if we have room in the freezer.

I believe my cup does runth over

"usually get at least one deere if we have room in the freezer"

I"ve heard they taste better than Farmalls.

...........The pear trees are bending over from the weight of the pears and we have to find room room for them.........
Pears... I wish I could find some more pear trees, The old abandoned house down the road was bulldozed this spring... (For what it was worth it was a really nice CAT dozer!! ) It had 2 really old pear trees that we got a lot of fruit from but they pulled out all the fruit trees when the house went :( And our trees won't produce for another few years yet.

Good feeling huh! Reminds of John Denver's "sun's coming up and the cake's on the griddle, life ain't nothing but a funny, funny riddle, thank God I'm a country boy"! Only thing I can think of to add to your list is a shed full of firewood!

My wife has used up our supply of empty canning jars canning various vegetables which were in the dozens over 20 gals of tomato juice alone has filled up 2 freezers with vegetables and keeping the third open for deer meat as we can kill 6 a year and I usually get my limit plus what other hunters that don't eat deer give me that hunt here on my farm.

2badlybent:

You gotta get a bigger freezer. That other half a steer is going to get mighty lonely out there in the pasture. LOL

That's the one good point about olden times (before tractors); if the horse broke a leg or became too old to pull a plow, you could always eat 'em.

The one slaughter house that wanted to convert to horses got burned, the other was shut down by a judge. Meanwhile we're spending billions feeding feed lots full of 'wild' horses.

I'd like to try horse.

Lewis and Clark often noted that they had a meal of "horse beef" in their journals.

When I was a youngster we couldn't afford ground Beef, so Mom would buy horse meat. Never noticed the difference; meat is meat, as long as it fills your belly who cares what animal it comes from.
