I conquered another nasty habit. I no longer punch a timeclock. As of 10:03 this morning I retired. 45 yrs 2 days. Finally broke the habit.

Were you asked to leave.......or was it all set up by you?

What line of work were you in for 45 years and 2 days?

What are you gonna do now?
You need to stay active or you will wither away and die. I have seen many guys do this. They got pizzed off at a boss or the whole place and said "F--- it" I am retiring. Then they realize it wasnt as bad as they thought it was. Staying cooped up with the wife is worse.

My dad retired 9 years ago, he is bored, he needs a hobby, but he is not a woodworker or farmer or any blue collar trades guy. He was in sales for 30+ years.

Congratulations! I hope you have a long & healthy, happy retirement. I don't think you'll have trouble finding something to do.

Not asked to leave, but I think they were glad to see me go! Started in 1968 at Wilson & Co hog and beef kill plant in Cherokee Ia. It has changed hands several times over the last 45 yrs and is now owned by Tyson Foods. I started on the hog kill, then to the boiler & engine room, got downsized from there.. went to hot dog dept. From there to maint dept, and retired as "machinist/fabricator". I have plenty to do with 10 tractors and scads of guns. The wife isn't going to retire yet (goody goody) so I will have to keep myself busy. PS: I would have worked a few more years if Tyson hadn't taken over. I don't have a good word to say for those people.

Good for you. We will be retired 16 years at the end of December. Always have something to fill my day; only do woodworking one or two days a week.

Congratulations!!!

In about 2 or maybe 3 months, you will be so busy doing all those things you didn"t have time for while still working, that you will wonder why you didn"t retire earlier.

OH! You can now totally forget about Monday through Friday, because NOW there are 6 Saturdays and 1 Sunday each week.

Congratulations! I'm puling the plug on Nov.1st..I went part time (read semi-retired) in March 2012, and just working so SHMBO has health insurance. She's 65 in November. Can't wait.

Thanks for the info, I will stop buying their damn chicken.
Tyson is a big (screw everybody) type of company I am sure.

The place where I am at is small but the owner has made promises that he wont keep and several quality people are going to leave at the first of the year if he does not live up to those promises. One reason guys are pizzed is that the owner showed a few of the guys his new $15,000 Rolex watch. That burns my azz.

Enjoy it remember you earned it! Dose make a difference that you did it by choice!!! I had to retire at 62 due to an accident and disability a year ago this june! Am lucky tho that still can do a lot of the same things just takes lot longer, a there are days you just don't! Learning to be patient and adjusting to different methods was hardest but get along ok now!! I can still wrk on my tractors so life is good!!!! Take Care

Good for you. Just don't sit around too long or you will soon find the days are way too long.

I retired 22 years ago and then I decided to do some farming..I am not known to be very smart. But I am healthy.. LOL

Congratulations! I retired a week ago Wednesday. I don't miss going in to work one bit. 33 yrs. and retired at 56! As soon as this heat wave ends, I'm going fishing.

I finished last June aged 56 and had worked for the same employer for the past 33years. I taught Construction at the local college, dont miss it a bit. Hope to start doing some of my tractor collection soon. Best job ive ever had, my wife and I are having a great time.

Retiring and becoming an unproductive member of the economy and society doesn't interest me at all.If you're counting on some of these pension funds and Social Security long term you better have plan B in place anyway.

Congratulations on retiring. I retired three years ago and love it. I stay busy helping out others that need help ie: mowing their yard, repairing things around the house, running errands, or however I can help. I have taken off this month to ride my motorcycle around the western U S to visit friends and relatives. I am riding a Harley Sportster. It is not a large touring bike but am having loads of fun. My point is DON"T JUST SIT IN FRONT OF THE TV OR COMPUTER. Stay busy helping others. It takes your mind off yourself and your problems. Also you will find out that some others have it worse than you. By the way I had to retire because the Dr screwed up my double hip replacement. He also said I would never ride a motorcycle again. Remember ATTITUDE IS EVERYTHING. After trusting God to take total care of you, of course.
