I have a 4020 that was stuck took the head ground the valves engine is turning over.went to start it doesn"t fire even with ether?is want it fire evenif it is out of time?

Still need to have compression to ignite ether, just not as much as diesel fuel. If it is out of time you won't have compression due to valves opening and closing at the wrong time. It must be sort of close or you would have valves hitting pistons.

It has always been a train of thinking of mine to go back and rethink it threw. Go back threw the steps of takeing that head off and re think what you did on putting it back on. Chance is that you have forgot some thing that should had been done. Like Timing, Valve clearance, Torque specs, Push rods clance, Check your service book for all specs. These are important steps to follow threw. Check that intake manifold torq. if you had remove it and follow threw troq. patterns that is givin in the service book you do not want to warp the head or intake or exhaust maniflods.Good Luck

If it was stuck it has prob stuck rings and rusted liners resulting in no compression.
Should've dropped the pan and pulled the pistons while you had the head off.
A compression test will tell you.
