Pumkins are Orange - Pick??

With Halloween two months away, can they be left on the vine or should I pick and store them? Maybe put them in a cool basement. Just going to give them to the grandkids for Jack O Lanterns. Thanks

Pick and wax them the wax holds in moisture and reduces the mold factor. Car wax is fine (no grit based cleaner wax, just finish) then put them in the cool basement. Jim

Do not set them directly on concrete. Put them on wood or pallets if you have any. Pumpkins don't hold up go on concrete.

Saw some big pumpkins at the supermarket yesterday. It's 2 months until Halloween. With temps hitting 111 yesterday, I was wondering how long those pumpkins would keep if you decorated one and put it outside???

Give some to your neighbor, Bob.

He was bragging about free green beans from a neighbor, free sweetcorn from a neighbor, free steak from a neighbor - might as well give him a pumpkin.

BTW, has he bought his Caddy yet?

OK, Thanks everybody. College guy said to pick and store at 80 degrees for two weeks. Will put them in the shed on pallets until they harden. Then, put a coat of car wax on them.

My brother is going to start picking and open up around the 15th, just like every year. I know in another post, a guy said to let them get a hard frost, and that's the last thing you want... That'll make 'em go really mushy really quick...
