ih #56 corn planter weight

Does anybody know approximatley how much a two row model 56 planter weighs? I have i want to sell but i want to determine its worth in scrap so i can come up with a fair price. The planting part of it works ok but the fertilizer hopper is rotted beyond repair. I do have an assortment of plates for it

Not much.I doubt if it's even 300 lbs.At $200/ton,thats barly $30.

I took one like that to the scrap yard a few months ago and got $58 for it. I was surprised it was that much. I don't like scrapping old farm equipment but I couldn't save this one. A barn had fell on it smashing all the boxes and twisting the frame. I started trying to straighten it back out but it was too far gone.

Thanks for your input. I had it on craigslist for 300 and i have someone coming to look at it this week. I wasnt expecting to get that much but i figured start out high. I guess if i get anything more than 100 ill be happy. Like i said the planter does work just the fertilizer hopper is rotted

I bought one about 5 years ago at consignment auction and only paid $95 for it. It worked good.

I would guess around 500-600 lbs. Cousin had a 4 x 38 IH 56 planter. He stored it inside an old chicken house. We had to drag it in long ways. Two if us could slide it end ways to get it in the door. So it could not have been that heavy. HE did take all the boxes off to make it lighter but it was not a very heavy planter.

Worked good. I like the seed transmission better than the JD 494. The shoe planter did OK the double disk was terrible. Just made trenches for the seed.

replacment fertilizer hoppers can be found, also, the fiberglass ones can be put on as well. try selling it as a parts donor before scraping it out.

That planter would compair to the Deere 290 and with what they seem to be selling for, advertised prices 5 to 8+ hundred dollars and then the Fords that you cannot get many plates for at 8-9hundred it should be in the $500 range. 2 row is worth a lot more than a 4 row. Now if it was a bit older 4 row the price would be $800-$1,000 for it with the clutch lift.
