Weekend honey-do-project and she helped. Made a bench out of an old headboard, foot board and used cedar wood. All we had to buy was paint and she painted it.

Really don't think this will hold up outside, but only a crazy man wants to tell the boss it won't.

You can't see from the pic, I had to remove 10 inches from the headboard's legs to make the boards at the bottom level. The rest was relatively easy. I per drilled holes and ran screws in from the back to hold the sides together. Used screws to hold the ceder together, bottom up, so you can't see them.

Had the boss use painters caulk to fill in joints in an attempt to keep water out. Still think it won't hold up outside, oh well, boss is always right.

I think a King size would come close to making a day bed. Not that I really need one. A single bed may make a nice chair. I used a full size headboard that a friend gave me, so my only expense was screws and paint. Had screws.
