Ain't It Great?

You never know. I have an idea that some people,
maybe with not so much internet savvy, maybe not
familiar with the web site, are unable to find their
way back to the post. Maybe others read the response
but for some reason can't or don't reply back. That
does not stop me from being helpful. You never know
who might see it and be helped.

True, but if that is the case, they started a thread asking, surely they should be able to start another one with their results.

They probably think that they are of no consequence in the lives of those who helped them.

Ive been here over 15 years or so and youre right, more often then not people to not take the time to provide feedback or if any suggestions were right or wrong or helped or they got it fixed, just human nature I guess??? HOWEVER there are some who do report back and thank the gents who helped them and over the years I have personally received numerous kind thank yous etc. Regardless, Im here to help when I can and try my best........

Yep,top of page 3 on classic right now. I just got on to see if he needed a picture of the hole that's cut in mine. No response from yesterday's answer.

(quoted from post at 08:39:05 09/03/13) The flip side is if the advice was bad they don't
want to come back and tell folks that gave advice they don't have a clue what they are talking about.

Bad advice should be brought up and pointed out whether it hurts someones feelings or not. That is just as important as posting good advice. It may save someone from getting hurt or dead.

This site is different than most I am on as when an answer is added to their post the original post may be a couple of pages back and on the other sites as soon as a reply is made to a post the original message is brought back to the top. I hope this makes sense

Makes perfect sense, you are using Classic View.

If you use Modern View every reply brings that thread right back to the top of page one. A far better system in my mind.

And then there are the ones that post asking for information and leave out a lot of important items for you to help them and you ask for more information, if they included a picture but does not show what you need then they could put on a picture from what you are asking about to help them. I guess they actually never wanted help, just make them think they are doing something.

I try to thank, don't always do it. I'm not good with the net either. I find the photo posting on this site ridiculously over complicated. I find more often than not answers to my posts are something CLEARLY posted in the original post (what I already checked, what I tried already etc). Plus occasionally some rude smart alec posts that I refuse to dignify with a response. Usually, I get lots of free help and for that I thank you all!

Maybe he refused to confront his death wobble and crashed the truck and can't type right now. Hope not though.......

It's important to me to get FB. A lot of times you are trying to help out on something you never did before but know some basic principles that can help. Sometimes you have another piece of somewhat similar equipment and explain how it works thinking that maybe by understanding how yours works he can figure out how to fix his.

Sometimes there is a question and answer session and rolling back to the top certainly helps in following that.

Sometimes it takes time for a problem to be solved. So there is a time lag in the advice and the answer.

I had forgotten about "Modern View". I just switched to it and will stay with it as many have said, it's like other sites with Q-A topics. I think the roll back to the start helps a lot when a thread is answered especially when YOU are looking for answers.

An old preacher explained it to us when we were just little sprouts in Sunday School.

"When you do good deeds, you should do those deeds to build up your reward in Heaven. If you expect thanks and appreciation for those deeds, and get those thanks and appreciation, you have already received the reward you were looking for and are owed no more from God."

Don't get me wrong, I'm not looking for personal thanks.

I just think it's rude not to provide a little feedback after getting some help.

And yes, there may be good reason for it but I expect in most cases it is just laziness and apathy.

And, my pet peave is the ones who reply, stating,
"Whats your e-mail address? I'll reply direct".
Well, there are others on the forum who might also be interested in the answers to a specific
question or how to solve a problem, and you are
leaveing us out when you reply privately.

I try to thank you for your responses in the original post. I use the classic veiw, just set in my ways I guess. Allot of times I will ask about something then walk out the door. I may not get back here untill late in the day which sometimes may be too late to respond with a THANK YOU. Being an old guy set in my ways means I don't have one of them fancey internet phones either. Although I have been thinking about one.

I ususally come back with an update giving results and thanking all for the advice but I cannot say everytime. I asked for advice about cutting down a leaning tree, well one thing led to another- I still haven't gotten to it. I posted a question a couple days ago 9carb issue) got replies, but before I can try that out the starter is giving me fits- so it looks like I didn't come back at all. But I am always thankful for this site and the good people posting, which I sometimes make a post just saying thanks.

It's never too late for a thank you

The post I referenced was made on the 20th of August, surely the OP has had time to look for reply's, unless as someone has mentioned, he has run into trouble of some sort.

Hello hillbillyjack,

Most of us, including my self, do not need a feed back. But the feedback IS needed not only to thank the responders, but to show what worked.
Those who respond with the wrong info, will no what worked as well!
Do good and forget! Do bad, and watch your back!

Guido.

I like Kornfused try and give thanks and/or feedback but I must admit I have missed on occasion. Paul

This!

I have TRIED providing feedback many many times on this forum and others like it, especially when the suggestions don't address my issue.

It is usually IGNORED.

The problem is that threads get on a certain track, and re-focusing that thread is just about impossible.

(quoted from post at 07:35:18 09/03/13) Ain't it great?

I have been helped greatly by reading responses to "help" posts, even though I wasn't the original poster.

Your response may have helped out a whole lot of other people who had similar problems. I try to thank the responding posters, but often there are several other suggestions posted after that as well.
