Thanks for the encourageing words earlier..I did the online app.It almost 3 hrs! Bu!!$h!++....Anyway,work has been down this year(too much competetion with new equipment),'customers dont have any money. The crops are struggleing, hay is short....Leasaed ground is 'evaporateing-several 'newcomers' tied up alot of ground-being cutthroat. They are takeing ground and work away.I cant do the hard physical work anymore....I'm tired of fighting....Susan is unable to work(due to diabetes and other issues)but she is not "disabled".That and all the medical stuff is a drain on our finances. Also the emotionalpart/stress of that is a burden. So I have to generate all the income for our family. It just gets harder and harder to to do it on the farm.Breaks my heart to quit(I've struggled so hard to get 'here')I finally have to 'best' line of equipment of my life(its old,but OK).I.ve gotten a good reputation for doing good work, and being very knolegable of many things....I'm tired, discouraged.I think I need a change(or a LONG vacation?).Thanks for listening,Steve

I hate those on line applications !!! You really have no idea if they ever get submitted ?
Wife applied at taco bell and never heard from them and the local branch always has help wanted signs posted Go figure ?

I also heard they watch the time you take to fill one out and weed out applicants that take too long.

I hope nobody will say anything in response to me that makes this post go "poof" Steve. If they do,I hope miss Kim just takes mine down and any responses to me. But don't bet that your wife can't get disability. Those crooked lawyers who advertise for it will get it for her. About half of the states in the country hire a private company to go through their welfare rolls and find people who they think they can get off state welfare and on to federal disability. Even they have a 70% success rate pretty much just pulling names out of a hat,so to speak.

Best of luck to you. What you're going through has been one of the biggest fears in my life. When I quit,I want it to be because I'm ready to retire.

I feel your pain, I had a stroke last year and have lost 70% of my vision, but alas I too am not disabled. That determination was made because I hold a masters degree. But I'm not allowed to drive so explain to me how am I to get to work. I guess what I'm saying is don't give up reorganize if need be but keep your head up and keep on going. Yes you may need to add a part time gig but don't give up.

Most disability claims are denied first time as a matter of practice. Try again. It took my sister 3 times before she was approved just a short time before she passed away. She was 58 years old.

Best wishes in your new endeavors, at least youre trying your best. In the eighties I had to get big or get out of farming and chose to get out and went back to my Electrical Engineering Career and hobby farmed after that. Im pretty well retired now other then a lot of RV travelling and have a nice small country law practice when Im home..

Hope it works out for you, good luck

Just read an article that said 66% of 1st time disability claims are turned down. Hire a representative with a proven record in disability claims. By law they can only charge $6000 OR 25% of the retroactive benefits - the amount she can collect from the onset of the disability until the benefit is approved- WHICHEVER IS LESS. Do not pay anything in advance and if disapproved again you should pay nothing.
Good luck and sometimes a change of career is a blessing. It can make you look at things differently and maybe a new plan for the future. The land & the equipment won't know or care about the new job.

I see the Colorado State Lottery is at one million dollars. I know some folks have problems with getting sucked in playing too much but I keep my outlay at under 5 bucks a week. 5 dollars that would be spent on soda pop or donuts which I for sure do not need. I know I probably will never win big but it gives me something to dream about when I am blue. I do not know the situation out there but things even out over time. I've been told I should give up because so and so is going to have it all nailed down for himself but many times so and so faded away after a couple years of hard times. Try to keep your chin up.

Keep your chin up. Don't want to sound like a broken record, but when things get rough, just remember that there is some one that is probably worse off for some reason. Not trying to take the spot light here, just want to tell you our story. My wife has Diabetes and lost her sight in 1989, at 28 years old, when the kids were in school. She was denied disability the 1st time around even after the eye doctor from University Hospital, said she was completely blind and would never see again. She worked in a nursing home as an aid and would get rides to work and still make beds , not seeing anything. As her health deteriated, she finally pretty much stayed at home and just took care of the housework. She bakes from scratch, breads, cookies, cakes, pies etc. She knits and crochets. She sews buttons on for me, even threads the needle to sew it on. She had a job for a while across the street from our house a couple years ago working at a deli and bakery, doing dishes and slicing buns small odd jobs until she started having back and hip problems. She is a small thing that watches her diabetes real close and manages them well. Her first thought are our kids and myself. If I ever had to do with out her, I would be lost for sure. She is the best thing that ever happened to me and is what brightens my day when I think I have aches and pains. Good Luck and hang in there.

They deny almost everyone the first time just because they can, usually seems to take 3 trys around here for those that really need it. Like others said get a lawyer who specializes in that and she should get it and probably retroactive. I have no problem with deserving people getting disability that's why we all pay taxes, it could be any of us someday. Good luck to you.

What they don't tell you... but a bigger issue than 'farm experience'...is 'cash register experience'. The managers are always pulling people from other stocking or back room jobs to man a register... if you can do that.... show them you can count, make change, run the credit card swip, you are heads and shoulders above any one else. Knowledge of what's on the shelves is second to getting the line at the register from walking out peed off...

I applied to TSC a couple years back. I figured a former US Marine who worked in Aviation Supply, was forklift certified, had worked in retail lumber yards, construction, home repair, had a small engine side line, was a former Husqvarna/Jonsereds dealer, retired State employee, farmer with experience in welding and all sorts of farm repair plus livestock PLUS pets, paint, tire repair, fencing, etc. would be a shoe in. Never got so much as a nibble. But by golly there are 7 or 8 real nice looking young girls working there and one or 2 older real nice looking ones and one not so great looking one that can run the forklift and lift heavy stuff. There's also a couple nice young men running themselves ragged doing all the lifting and carrying the not so hot looking girl can't do.

My wife tried to ease the blow by telling me I was over qualified. I figured I was just lacking the necessary mammary equipment to get considered.

Sorry to see that your down. You always seem so chipper and helpful to everyone. Hopefully things will go your way and get better soon. We are all rooting for you.

Red, I don't think you'd like the lobotomy, that comes with the job! Round here they don't want anyone with farm experience, or an IQ over a hundred, or that doesn't have 2 arms tattooed up to the neck!

lots of guys here get on with local board of education driving school bus, need cdl, start at 530am, finish morning run by 830, work farm til 145, then evening runs 230 to 430, full benefits, great insurance, might not hurt to look at in your area

Not TSC but I had an interview at large deere dealer a couple weeks ago for sales position. I ask them to describe ideal person for the job, guy says I do not care if you know anything about equipment I found my best salesman at a bar.

You have to be a retarded monkey to get a job at TSC. Around here. Went to the local one looking for tune up parts for an 8N. I was told by the expert. We don't sell tractor parts

Good luck with your search. I know with your background you'll be head and shoulders over the kids, and probably the manager too.

Nothing in farming (not news) is far from the gambling table. Things cycle. I am interested in thinking toward retirement on the west slope and would be happy to be in that area. Keep a focus on those great things you have. Jim

Now THAT is awesome... a Tractor Supply that does not sell tractor parts. Too funny!

Don't know what rock you've been hiding under for the last 10 years or so, but all the Tractor Supply stores around here have one short aisle of "tractor parts." Most of the rest of the store is stuff for horse people.

Nobody complains because Walmart doesn't sell WALLS, yet everybody seems to have a problem because Tractor Supply doesn't sell tractors...

I put in a application in two different TSC about 15 years ago when I they had a lay off where I worked nobody knew how long it would be never heard from them the little airhead who was 18 got hired the next week I called and ask why they hired him instead of me they said they want people that didn't want anybody that knew anything about farming so they could train them their way.

The TSC in Mt. Pleasant has a little dog, cat & horse stuff, but a lot of what you might need on a farm/ranch. Tools, paint, lubricants, parts, batteries, clothes, boots, pluming & electrical supplies, etc. A fairly decent all round selection.

I thought it was kind of odd. I know they don't have the major items. But they do sell tune up kits. Just a shame that the kid had no idea what Tractor supply sold. You should at least have knowledge of what your company sells.

I can totally relate. My Dad realized the farm was not going to work long term so I got a factory job in 2000.After several employers shutting down and not being able to get into GM even though a guy that used to work under me got in and he was nearly useless then I am now hanging live broilers for a poultry processer.A young guy that was working on the line with me for a while told me that he worked at TSC on the side and they were hiring for part time people.I applied but heard nothing. The guy that told me about it didn"t work out on the kill line but I bumped into him later and he told me the jobs all went to student types.

As far as your better half goes don"t give up.Like others have said it is almost automatic to get turned down at least once.Remember when we were young and every teenage boy got turned down for his drivers license the first time? Here in Ontario I took my wife to the member of parliaments office to see about getting benefits over 2 years ago. When she found out disability claims were processed in the same office as welfare she put the brakes on.Now that she is out of work ,can barely walk and takes a whole mittful of pills everyday she has finally applied.
